The Congo rules clearly specify a default table size of 6' x 4' table (72" x 48"). See pages 12 and 67. "The size of the table, unless otherwise stated is 72" by 48"." Page 67.
But as another adventurer point out on this thread http://leadadventureforum.com/index.php?topic=93244.0
Foundry's website is stating that: "The 8 Adventures included with CONGO only require a small gaming surface (120cm x 90cm) ...," http://www.wargamesfoundry.com/congo
Per Fred below, the size quoted on the Foundry website is correct! [Changed thread title accordingly]

The good size is 120 cm X 90 cm. ;)
-
I'm confused: if the "good size" is 120cm by 90cm, then why do the rules specify 6' x 4'?!?
Which is it?
Do you mean that 120cm by 90cm is the minimum size?
-
Has anyone seen the French version of the rule book? What size table does it specify?
In case anything is getting lost in the English to Metric translation here, be aware that:
30cm = 12" = 1' (approximately).
So when the English rulebook says the board should be 72" x 48", that is the same as 180cm x 120cm.
-
oops, sorry this is a translation error. be sure that the head will be thrown to the lions. All adventures in the book her on a format of 120 x 90 but nothing prevents to create adventures on greater.
-
So is the 'official' table size 4' x 3'?

So is the 'official' table size 4' x 3'?
no 120 x 90cm metric...remember this is a french game...
mind you Saga was as well but they use inches for movement
-
Well, to end this story of size 120 x 90 cm / 4 x 3 feet / 48 x 36 inches.
It's good for all o_o

Thank you Fred, this is very good to know.

Aaah. That is a bit of a relief as one of the Studio Tomahawk chaps advised against playing on anything other than the recommended table size in the other thread...but I only have a 4'x3' table!
-
It totally messed up my first game as I got the table size totally wrong but it was a good learning game.
-
We played our first game on a 4' x 6' table and it seems a bit big. I'm glad to know it should be played on a smaller table.
-
This is a seriously bad error for such an expensive game. You should create a prominent errata page and proactively visit the various forums broadcasting the correct information in my opinion.
-
Does it really matter??? If the table size is really important can't you just put a border on it where the supposed table 'edge' is supposed to be?
cheers

James,
Yes, it does matter. Of course you can mark out the correct size (my group routinely does this playing SAGA, because no one had a table that is only 4'x3'). The issue though is that unless you see this thread, you won't KNOW to use the smaller area. As a result (like the posters above, you will set up the scenario over a 6' x 4' space, thus throwing off the intended distances, ratio of terrain to empty space, etc.
Also, when we say "table" in a context like this, we really mean "playing area."
Clearly someone (probably whoever prepared the English translation) was too lazy to look up the correct conversion of 120cm x 90cm to Imperial. Or maybe they just asked the author what size table, were told "standard size," and assumed that meant the U.S./U.K standard of 6'x4', when what was meant was the Studio Tomahawk standard....
-
Yes it's a translation error, every ruleset I've ever come across have had typo's of some kind (some quite major ones) and I'm sure it will be addressed in future print runs.
But I don't think it's that big a problem, as the rules have only just been released I'm sure that the guys from Studio Tomahawk are waiting to see if anything else crops up before publishing an official errata. :)
A bigger table will just give you more jungle to explore! ;)

We routinely play on 4x6 tables. But we tend to have 3-5 players most games.
