African project so far, the river
So the large battle for the Masai tribe and Wahehe are still being painted up , trying to get it all ready for the 17 September for the big game day at the Victorian Steel outpost, its going to be East Africa, riverboat needs to be created for the Germans, its now needs a African foot bridge creating with two hills on each side and plenty of jungle.
Table is 12ft by 6 ft, , first used spray adhesive, then placed the flooring soft vinyl, when placing you really do need to get it perfect, this was done in 3 pieces, slowly work from the middle and slightly push outwards to get rid of those bubbles.

The boards we already worked on, we can have this river wide or narrow as this picture shows, we can also create a beach landing by removing one riverside, WWII maybe

Still not got it right to the quality we want, but i hope wargamers pick up on this idea, rather than just placing top rivers sections on boards, with this idea you could even remove all the boards and place hills on the water and have sea battles, its simple and just gives you that more about wargaming.

Still have lots of work to do, a footbridge and grass tuffs around the riverbanks, could even build a habour or a jetty, the world of wargaming just opens up eh !

That looks great. I had the notion of doing something similar with a sci-fi swamp table with lots of small waterways but the project never took off.

I've done my rivers/coasts/ocean like this for many years.
Blue/green painted table, with shaped bits of terrain on top. Very versatile and looks good.

Thanks guys, it is simple and i think the best way of creating rivers, the boat Belisarius is now old, it looks good but is in need of a complete revamp

Unfortunately 6' X 12' is simply impractical in the house, even in the basement because even in a two story, 5 bedroom (all in use) there is no place to put such a monster. :'(
3' X 3' sure, 3' X 4' in one room when the occupant ever leaves, 3' X 6' in the casement is the closest.
Fortunately 15mm figures need 1/4 the space and 3mm/6mm figures proportionally less so I will consider how to adapt the ideas to tables that must be broken down bwtween games.
Very nice project and you are to be commended for sharing all your forethought and hard work!

Thank Conquistador, even on a small table, 1,300th scale ships is a must, plenty of room still, small islands place down, i think you could easy get 20 ships a side on a 3x3 table

It looks good. I'm lucky enough to have a permanent table now and I'm figuring out ways to make it suitable for naval gaming as well as land battles. Your method might work for me.

Here's a shot of my table showing a wide river using this method - blue/green painted 6'x2' sections (in this case making a 6x4 table, but I have 4 of them so can go up to 8'x6').
Then modular boards on top (grass covered in this case, but the reverse of the grass boards has sand, and I also have snow covered and urban boards. It's very versatile - you can do coastlines and estuaries easily, and of course just use the base boards for naval games.
