The other day me and a mate put together a small game of Congo to try out the rules using the various Colonial figures I have painted over the last year or so.

The board set up

The explorers party set up amongst their camp from the previous night

The explorer and some of his Askari shoot away at the attacking Zanzibari's

The Zanzibari characters sit back making sure the Explorer's party doesn't nick off with some precious treasure

The fighting get's closer!

Allies from each party skirmish on the flank

But alas the treasure which was hidden in one of the Askari's packs managed to be ferried off underneath the eyes of the Zanzibari's
Overall I thought it was a good and quick simple set of rules which we still managed to stuff up! The story the game told however was
fun and entertaining.

Good stuff. Thanks for sharing.
I have my second game planned for tomorrow. So far, I like what I've seen with these rules.

Thanks for taking the time to post up this thread with pictures, much appreciated. Still on the fence about these rules (I have to admit) but that's more to do with a desperate attempt to limit myself just to current ambitions and projects.

Thanks for posting the photos.
Still can not decide to purchase the rules.

Thanks for the kind comments. I don't think the rules have a ton of long term value unless Studio tomahawk release some more scenario's or expansions, but with the men who would be king coming out in a few months it's not a bad time to think about getting into Colonial skirmish games!

I am also still considering getting Congo (but want to have some models painted for IHMN, first, and Wayland takes some time to get my latest order, containing some native Africans, together and delivered).
Well, I have a sweet deal on a second hand Warlord Rorke's Drift set waiting for me in a little over a weeks time, so maybe... (yes, I know, Zulus are not really the target of Congo, but I have a rather relaxed 'pulpy' approach to games set in the Dark Continent).

Great looking game, very much looking forward to playing this.

I wondered about that as well. The game does appear to focus on adventure based scenarios that appear designed for specific cultures. I'm not sure the game is designed to work as a straight head to head skirmish game. This isn't necessarily a bad thing, but it does mean Congo may play better as a mini campaign with linked adventures. It's a pity the rules don't include options for this.
The mechanics appear simple but solid and creating new adventures should be straightforward. I'm interested in where Studio Tomahawk plan to take the game.

Regarding the adventures.
The fact that they oppose specific cultures is actually just a suggestion, related to the story told. The adventures can be played with any cultures, and that won't cause any issue.
About the long term playability, it depends what you're looking for. We think that the adventures are highly replayable, and we played some of them more then 10 times during the playtests! Even if you only play each adventure only twice (the first game allows you to discover the adventure and the second to test your skills against it!) you can still play 16 games of Congo out of the book (at the very least!).
And we have plan to expand the game with new adventures, some as downloads, some others as supplements. And this include a campaign.
Cheers
