One advice..
Make rigging from plastic floor brush instead.. they will always be tense without any trouble.

Well glued pieces of plastic will do the trick too. Especially when you do shrouds (wich is quite easy to do this method. It works like real life shrouds.
I am doing a frigate now and after trying cord i almost threw her into bin of shame, but plastic rod is giving much more suport to the masts despite them being really bendy metal (Navwar ship)

you should seriously try, I never went back to cord :)

You can also make super-thin plastic lengths by stretching scrap plastic sprues over a candle.

I've just used polyester thread and then a quick blast with a hair dryer.

nice but you should paint the white paper boarders . You see them at the flags . Would improve the overall picture.

I had a quick glance through the 'Age of Sails' labeled posts at your blog, but I could not find info on the ships; who makes the kits, are they commercially available, etc.?
