Or have played in the past? I picked these rules up years ago before my big break from wargaming and did start painting up units for it although never got to play a game. Is it still played a lot or has it been superseded by other VSF rules?
What are their good and bad points, in your opinion?
Any feedback gratefully received.

I play semi-regularly, and find it quite enjoyable after several years.
There have been other rules that threatened to usurp, but none so far.
I will admit I miss playing In Her Majesty's Name; I never thought it replaced, but rather offered something a bit different.
Do you have the original booklet, or the Compendium? We actually tend to mix and match from skirmish game and some simplifications from Battles By...
And if ANYONE has tried the Fleets game, I want to know!

I keep reading Gaslight and wanting to play, but honestly I find Valor & Steel & Flesh and the VSF iteration of FUBAR much easier to wrap my head around and get onto the table.
-
@ The_Beast: I have the original booklet
@ Froggy The Great: I will have to look up those other rule sets.

I am a GASLIGHT fan of the first hour, as we say in the Netherlands. Own both the 1st edition and the Compendium and play at least once or twice a year.
-
Still in regular use here.

GASLIGHT is the bases for most of the miniature games our group plays. From Darkest Africa to Mars and standard colonial games. A couple of weeks ago one of our group ran a game using Epic 40K miniatures and his version of the Gaslight rules for it. The Beast is one of our group and can attest to the fact we use it for everything. So yes we still play it.

Yes, but here's a place I'd like to visit again.
Troubles with the Kraag! (http://leadadventureforum.com/index.php?topic=9801.msg530248#msg530248)
I believe there are still a few old scores to settle. ;)

I play GASLIGHT (often with The_Beast).
The good:
-It works with lots of different environments. We have used it for VSF, colonial, old west, and darkest Afrika. But we have also used it for 28mm sci-fi, 6mm sci-fi, and Space ship combat (just once, but it worked alright). With tweaks I think you could use it for almost any setting.
-It is easy to tweak. We don't use all the rules as written, but generally we do. For example, I believe the rules for a failed moral test have each member of the unit roll separately on the moral table. We roll once for the whole unit.
-It works well for small games with just a few units per side, or bigger games, with 15 or more units per side.
The bad:
-No point costs for units/stats. This isn't completely bad, but it can be a challenge to balance a game out. I'm not opposed to setting up scenarios with unbalanced forces, but it can be a bummer when one side easily crushes the other.
-No basic unit stats. You have to build the stats for all your units yourself. This is easier once you've got a few games under your belt, but can be tough when getting started with the rules.
-
All good feedback thank you. It's good to know the rules are still enjoyed. I am currently rebasing some old Gaslight units and getting some new ones prepped for painting so there should be pictures soon.

Run it a couple times of year at cons, but never get to just play (sob) :'(
-
Played it a few times and liked I though personally I found it lacked depth. Bought VS&F, liked it better for depth but less for playability. Horses for courses I guess.

Just out of curiosity, the rules lacked depth, the fluff, or...?
Fluff is very much up to the player; the rules we definitely added to, getting what we wanted out of it.
Frankly, I'd like to see V&S&F background using GASLIGHT, but haven't gotten more than, 'I think that's possible.'

Much obliged. Thank you.

And, just to give respect to Mr. Charrette, it actually is Valor and Steel and Flesh, V&S&F. :D

Edit: And pretty much limited to the British and Martian struggles on Mars, but with rich details.

Got my copy off eBay; I think it's getting hard to find, though.

Noble Knight has it for $50; doesn't mean they'll get it any time soon... ;)

Sorry Beast, I missed your question:

I thought the rules lacked depth, I make up my own fluff.
