Modular Underground Project
I'm not sure what to think. This is the plastic system that was attempted by Manorhouse Workshop. I suppose they purchased the rights or design etc? The promo shots are even the same from the last project I think. Value? not sure.

^The old Manorhouse stuff. I don't even know if the Manorhouse attempt succeeded but they reference the kits in the video for the Maki games stuff.
It looks interesting if a bit fiddly (lots of bits).

I'm tempted, as they are pretty decently priced, but I may just build my.own.

Buyer beware on this one:
This little item they slip into the Risks is a real warning sign (and actually illegal for shipping in/to the EU). No way that anyone should be willing to take this on.
".....By pledging to this Kickstarter you agree that our responsibility to you is to ship your order as entered into our pledge manager system. You agree that title and risk pass to you up on delivery to a common carrier for such shipment......"
Basically saying they are accepting no risks for damage/loss or non delivery. Once they give it to the courier at their end all the risk is on the buyer, no comeback on them.

What kind of reputation does Maki games have?

What kind of reputation does Maki games have?
I have not heard any horror stories about their previous campaign which seems to have gone OK and Christian (Kirillo?) is around on TMP regularly.
Concerns me because they are in Europe and should know the trading regulations. So know they cannot get away with passing responsibility for safe delivery of a purchase to the customer. Question is why have they chosen to specifically write it into the project in such obvious legal terms?
-
My gut instinct is that it's a CYA clause for the very worst cases.

Some huge Chinese cargo ship company just went belly up and all of their ships were seized by the courts with all cargo on board apparently it's a huge deal and some game companies are caught up in it. This is perhaps a response to that.
-
The 7th largest shipping company (Hanying?) recently filed for bankruptcy protection, yeah. That's causing a pretty big issue since they can't afford port fees etc. A lot of ships are stranded around the world with a toooon of cargo onboard.
-
No this campaign was lodged with KS before that news broke, this disclaimer is not related to the shipping company's financial woes.
Question remains, why would you require your customers to accept responsibility that when something you sell them does not arrive or arrives broken it is their responsibility not yours?
To me this is a big warning flag about the mindset of Maki Games.

Well, at the very least it shows those guys aren't too willing offering solutions in the case of whichever drawback might occur during the process ( what about miscast/incomplete/wrongly shipped orders? ), so no way in hell I'm gonna spend some cash with them.
Shame, because it looks like pretty good quality dungeon/wall material...

I'd like to see it succeed if only so I can buy some stuff later. I don't have the funds to buy in at the moment. Looking at the system I think I'd be pretty sorely tempted to build a few permanent structures out of the pieces, rather than adjust them for each game. I'd be concerned about the pegs and wearing them out etc. But a small collection allowing me to make 4-6 small structures to place with the dwarven forge stuff would be pretty nice.
What I don't understand...did Manorhouse ever succeed or did they just drop it? I'm a bit curious on the transition to a new company (unless Manorhouse and MAKI are owned by the same folks etc.).
-
It certainly looks nice, but the price is not that good if you actually want to make a big dungeon with the stuff. Their nice display picture has what, like 10 sets? I guess if you want the good stuff though, you gotta pay up. ;)
-
As someone who games with Dwarven Forge, I can't criticize anyone about spending on dungeons...Maybe this will be big and you'll get a nice amount of bonus pieces or something. Once it's all produced I'd think this stuff could be vaguely reasonable...but still DF or so level.
