Title: Staff of Casting

hey all in our last game I got a +2 staff of casting: miraculous cure and in a previous game my opponent got a staff of casting (?) Our question is that since both of these staffs are of spells that neither of us know can we use them and if so do we use our wizards school to determine what the casting number is???

I don't have the rules in front of me, but if I recall correctly, the Staff of Casting simply adds to the casting value of the assigned spell.  Therefore, you will need to know the spell, and the bonus applied is based on the casting value of the known spell, taking into account school of magic penalties.

Thanks for the reply. I guess if that's the case I'll just sell the staff cuz the spell in question even with the bonus would still need a 22 to cast and that's just not worth it in my book...
