The Halfmen from Westfalia Miniatures arrived the other day!!! Thank you Kawe the figures are little gems indeed! I will build a Dragon Rampant army with 9 units. 1 spear armed one , 1 helebard armed one, one peasant one , one bow unit, one goat rider unit, the paymaster on giant, a mixed spear and bow unit, a sorcerer with acolyte , and Dietrich von Schalke the army general. So a lot to paint and glue. This project will take me through the winter month and then right on time for the next GoT season I will do more of the human type of fantasy figures!
So here is the first picture of the army:

Very cool! 8)
Love the heraldry. I have thought about using black dog as general emblem for my halfling army... if I ever get to paint them ::)

Here is the next Halfmen Knight . Falk von Schalke a nephew of Dietrich von Schalke. He is bearing the back horse of Schalke as his heraldic device <...snip...>
This black horse is nowadays referred to an Grubenpony (pit or shaft pony) :)
Nice painting and basing work btw.

A fine addition to the retinue! 8)
I was thinking of giving shields to some of the retinue members of my halftone, have you considered the same?
-
Not yet, but might do so when starting with the retinue of Dietrich von Schalke.
-
I hope you all had a wonderful x-mas and I think, as it is only the 2nd of January, I can still wish you a wonderful new year 2017!

Wonderful looking unit!
Which rules are you planning on using with the halfmen?
-
I will use Dragon Rampant as you can have mixed units .
-
I will use Dragon Rampant as you can have mixed units .
I have the rules but must confess that I haven't yet read them :/
Good to know that mixed units are a possibility.

After a longer hiatus, the build something contest 2017 got in the way , here are the next finished miniatures in my Halfmen army. Warriors of Dietrich von Schalke:

-
He looks might fierce, a proper warrior like he is.
Will he part of a mixed unit as well?
-
No this will be a 12 men spear unit . There will be another 12 men bill unit and a 12 men archer unit. these units are Dietrich von Schalkes own men so the units are a bit bigger as he is the big mean overlord.
I am working on the Dietrich von Schalke mini at the moment too so watch this space ! There will be a special army standard bearer too in the future. Have to think about rules for him in Dragon Rampant.

That must be a lot of neat Halflings by now. Is there a lot left to paint?
-
Your ongoing effort is excellent.
-
I have about half of them painted now . So still a long way to go!
-
How long does it take you to get one of them ready for the field? Do you do them in badges?
-
I paint them individually as I can hold on to my painting mojo better that way. I hate when you paint say 6 or 12 figures at a time and nothing gets really finished in a reasonable amount of time. At the moment I paint a blood bowl team for my son and I started doing all 12 figures at the same time :( I really look forward finishing them at the weekend.
when I paint one figure at a time I can finish the figure in an afternoon when they are not made of Resin as I use a hairdryer then to reduce drying time. You can't do that with resin obviously so they take a bit longer !
-
Here is the army general of my halfmen army . I called him Dietrich von Schalke. As I have already said the complete halfmen army is painted in the colors of my favorite soccer club FC Schalke 04 . Blue and white.

I see - yeah - it's so much easier to paint 1 mini. And nice goat lord, very Schalke. :--)

Great work on Herr Schalke! He looks very good in Königsblau :D

Here is my halfmen army wizard Otto. He is a summoner of the army mascot Erwin. The other figure is his apprentice, little Carl ,keeper of the magic book of spells. Erwin will be ready for battle in a few days if Otto finds the right summoning spell in his book ;)

Nice work on both of them, once again 8)
Black back drop work fine, but was the camera focus too close, just a wee tiny bit?
-
Hey Tom, these are some fun models and well painted too! nice work!
-
Hahahaha great to hear Erwin will make an appearance!
-
Yes the last pictures were a bit out of focus sorry.
Here is my take on Erwin, the blue dragon. He lives beneath the halfmen stronghold called Schalke in the deep , now derelict, coal mines. A vast dungeon which strikes fear into the strongest man.
