Title: Pirates of the Slave Coast (A modern African AAR)
Post by: Bushbaby on September 21, 2016, 01:03:38 PM

Behold, the Blood River Delta. A malaria ridden swamp, home to insects, deadly microbes and ruthless pirates, attacking merchant shipping along the coastline of the West African Republic, formerly known as "the Slave Coast". The UN imposed safe zone is regularly disregarded by greedy shipping companies trying to cut costly detours.

Their leader is captain "Skullface" Momfazi, ex-AFWAR major and a proper psychopat, known to have eaten the hearts of captured enemies. After being dismissed for embezzeling government funds, he led a group of followers into the delta, drove off the local tribesmen and set up operations.

According to recent CIA intel, "Rodrigo" a colombian drug runner from Medellin, has started using the pirate camp as a transit station for cocaine bound for Europe. At the moment reliable sources indicate that the ship "Bwana Queen" is in port, carrying over 2 tons of purest marching powder destined for Spain. On top of this, Rodrigo S is accompanying the vessel together with a group of cartel gunmen.  The opportunity is too good to pass, and a team of US black ops is assembled.

The pirate camp, an abandoned fisherman village belonging to the native Kwe people. The original inhabitants are driven away to a UNMIWAR refugee camp upriver. In the early morning hours, the only ones awake are a couple of pigs.

The objective, the "Bwana Queen".

(http://i1066.photobucket.com/albums/u415/Johannes_Hatem/Pirates%20of%20the%20Black%20Coast/P1070126_zpsmsgro5bn.jpg) (http://s1066.photobucket.com/user/Johannes_Hatem/media/Pirates%20of%20the%20Black%20Coast/P1070126_zpsmsgro5bn.jpg.html)

The CIA operatives enter the scene. Their team composition is as follows:

Boat 1: Team leader and SAW gunner.

Boat 2: Sniper and grenadier.

(http://i1066.photobucket.com/albums/u415/Johannes_Hatem/Pirates%20of%20the%20Black%20Coast/P1070124_zpsgotvmsfv.jpg) (http://s1066.photobucket.com/user/Johannes_Hatem/media/Pirates%20of%20the%20Black%20Coast/P1070124_zpsgotvmsfv.jpg.html)

To bolster their forces, they have armed two boatloads of Kwe fishermen eager for revenge on the pirates who drove them from their ancestral swamp. These men are protected with magic amulets and believe themselves to be invulnerable to bullets.

The northern passage to the camp is heavily guarded with an old recoilless rifle dating from the end of the war of independence angainst the white minority in the 80:s.

So our heroes advance from the western approaches, out of sight from the gun emplacement.

(http://i1066.photobucket.com/albums/u415/Johannes_Hatem/Pirates%20of%20the%20Black%20Coast/P1070134_zpsz85s617t.jpg) (http://s1066.photobucket.com/user/Johannes_Hatem/media/Pirates%20of%20the%20Black%20Coast/P1070134_zpsz85s617t.jpg.html)

A newly awakened pirate on a remote guard post is mortally wounded by a supressed sniper bullet, but manages to fire a salvo in the air...

alerting the camp residents, including "Rodrigo"...

(http://i1066.photobucket.com/albums/u415/Johannes_Hatem/Pirates%20of%20the%20Black%20Coast/P1070175_zpsnxjjsqj8.jpg) (http://s1066.photobucket.com/user/Johannes_Hatem/media/Pirates%20of%20the%20Black%20Coast/P1070175_zpsnxjjsqj8.jpg.html)

and Captain Skullface. Mad with rage, he orders his cronies to take up defensive positions.

(http://i1066.photobucket.com/albums/u415/Johannes_Hatem/Pirates%20of%20the%20Black%20Coast/P1070148_zpsm6yxitbu.jpg) (http://s1066.photobucket.com/user/Johannes_Hatem/media/Pirates%20of%20the%20Black%20Coast/P1070148_zpsm6yxitbu.jpg.html)

The armed tribesmen make landfall...

(http://i1066.photobucket.com/albums/u415/Johannes_Hatem/Pirates%20of%20the%20Black%20Coast/P1070141_zpsczy7tiwt.jpg) (http://s1066.photobucket.com/user/Johannes_Hatem/media/Pirates%20of%20the%20Black%20Coast/P1070141_zpsczy7tiwt.jpg.html)

while some pirates boards the Queen and mans the .50 cal.

(http://i1066.photobucket.com/albums/u415/Johannes_Hatem/Pirates%20of%20the%20Black%20Coast/P1070131_zpsljgfctvy.jpg) (http://s1066.photobucket.com/user/Johannes_Hatem/media/Pirates%20of%20the%20Black%20Coast/P1070131_zpsljgfctvy.jpg.html)

More fishermen enters the fray.

(http://i1066.photobucket.com/albums/u415/Johannes_Hatem/Pirates%20of%20the%20Black%20Coast/P1070159_zpscuw8vhbp.jpg) (http://s1066.photobucket.com/user/Johannes_Hatem/media/Pirates%20of%20the%20Black%20Coast/P1070159_zpscuw8vhbp.jpg.html)

And soon the archipelago is enveloped in a storm of fire and lead!

(http://i1066.photobucket.com/albums/u415/Johannes_Hatem/Pirates%20of%20the%20Black%20Coast/P1070168_zpshljd2jdw.jpg) (http://s1066.photobucket.com/user/Johannes_Hatem/media/Pirates%20of%20the%20Black%20Coast/P1070168_zpshljd2jdw.jpg.html)

"Rodrigo" runs for the boat, accompanied by two bodyguards.

(http://i1066.photobucket.com/albums/u415/Johannes_Hatem/Pirates%20of%20the%20Black%20Coast/P1070152_zps4yau41yc.jpg) (http://s1066.photobucket.com/user/Johannes_Hatem/media/Pirates%20of%20the%20Black%20Coast/P1070152_zps4yau41yc.jpg.html)

The battlefield from above. The boat is preparing for a fighting retreat. The operatives and their tribesmen allies are advancing through the island to the right.

(http://i1066.photobucket.com/albums/u415/Johannes_Hatem/Pirates%20of%20the%20Black%20Coast/P1070165_zpstvxi6t22.jpg) (http://s1066.photobucket.com/user/Johannes_Hatem/media/Pirates%20of%20the%20Black%20Coast/P1070165_zpstvxi6t22.jpg.html)

The gringos take their first casualty. A loss they can ill afford. At the same time, their allies are giving the pirates an even match with heavy casualties on both sides.

(http://i1066.photobucket.com/albums/u415/Johannes_Hatem/Pirates%20of%20the%20Black%20Coast/P1070174_zpskeoj46cj.jpg) (http://s1066.photobucket.com/user/Johannes_Hatem/media/Pirates%20of%20the%20Black%20Coast/P1070174_zpskeoj46cj.jpg.html)

To be honest, I can´t recall what the commanding pirate player had in mind with this unpredictable manouver...

(http://i1066.photobucket.com/albums/u415/Johannes_Hatem/Pirates%20of%20the%20Black%20Coast/P1070173_zpsajx5ubpe.jpg) (http://s1066.photobucket.com/user/Johannes_Hatem/media/Pirates%20of%20the%20Black%20Coast/P1070173_zpsajx5ubpe.jpg.html)

but the result was predictable indeed!

(http://i1066.photobucket.com/albums/u415/Johannes_Hatem/Pirates%20of%20the%20Black%20Coast/P1070162_zpsiipiaeia.jpg) (http://s1066.photobucket.com/user/Johannes_Hatem/media/Pirates%20of%20the%20Black%20Coast/P1070162_zpsiipiaeia.jpg.html)

Maybe this could explain the irrational behaviour of the pirates?

(http://i1066.photobucket.com/albums/u415/Johannes_Hatem/Pirates%20of%20the%20Black%20Coast/P1070185_zpseqsjgde2.jpg) (http://s1066.photobucket.com/user/Johannes_Hatem/media/Pirates%20of%20the%20Black%20Coast/P1070185_zpseqsjgde2.jpg.html)
The island´s defenders hurry to get aboard the boat, as it sets out to open waters.

(http://i1066.photobucket.com/albums/u415/Johannes_Hatem/Pirates%20of%20the%20Black%20Coast/P1070183_zpskhzbalxx.jpg) (http://s1066.photobucket.com/user/Johannes_Hatem/media/Pirates%20of%20the%20Black%20Coast/P1070183_zpskhzbalxx.jpg.html)

The sniper takes aim...

(http://i1066.photobucket.com/albums/u415/Johannes_Hatem/Pirates%20of%20the%20Black%20Coast/P1070187_zpswhkbeinx.jpg) (http://s1066.photobucket.com/user/Johannes_Hatem/media/Pirates%20of%20the%20Black%20Coast/P1070187_zpswhkbeinx.jpg.html)
 and starts putting pirates down.

(http://i1066.photobucket.com/albums/u415/Johannes_Hatem/Pirates%20of%20the%20Black%20Coast/P1070193_zpstpxodkvu.jpg) (http://s1066.photobucket.com/user/Johannes_Hatem/media/Pirates%20of%20the%20Black%20Coast/P1070193_zpstpxodkvu.jpg.html)

But a burst of  AK-47 fire renders the last americans out of commission.

(http://i1066.photobucket.com/albums/u415/Johannes_Hatem/Pirates%20of%20the%20Black%20Coast/P1070195_zpsjthomdzh.jpg) (http://s1066.photobucket.com/user/Johannes_Hatem/media/Pirates%20of%20the%20Black%20Coast/P1070195_zpsjthomdzh.jpg.html)

Another feather in the hat for the Medellin Cartel!

Final tally:

6 Fishermen: 5 Dead, 1 Casualty
12 Pirates: 5 Dead 2 Casualties
5 Cartel members: 1 Dead
4 US Black Ops: 1 Dead, 1 Casualty, 1 Injured and unconsious

The liquid libations effect on the game cracked me up, too... lol lol

Great looking board! Congrats on assembling all the watercraft. Lots of the scenery looks scratch-build. You take this game to a convention and people will flock to it... :-*

Great job...

That's impressive.
I've always been a 'professional military' type modeler and gamer and never have given a scenario like that much thought.
Until now.... I can see a whole lot of fun being had with that.

I believe they may be Siku toys. They are repainted fire dept boats from a set.

Fantastic.  I've always been a huge fan of islands presenting a unique table...and if I did a modern board it'd probably end up very much like this (doing the beginnings of a sci-fi board with a similar philosophy).  Really atmospheric.  Sounds fun.

Nice work - exactly the sort of feel I'm trying to achieve with my own terrain boards and figures.

Thank you guys. It was a really fun and interesting scenario. The islands are actually hills placed on a piece of blue cloth.
