Title: Looking for Gendarmes
Post by: timt on October 13, 2016, 11:56:14 AM
The Lead Adventure pack called PA10 Expedition to Mutant Land contains a boy reporter, his white dog, a sea captain, an eccentric inventor and a pair of bumbling detectives. Apparently we should not be any more forthcoming for copyright reasons but I guess you all know who I mean. Anyhow, this is a pack I have fancied getting for some time but when I have seen it at UK shows the sea captain has been missing from the pack (I was told for copyright reasons but, if that is the case, why just the captain?). I saw the figures on a stand at SELWG (UK wargames show) on Sunday. The first pack had five figures, the one behind it had five figures bit the third one had six - oh joy!

So I am now the proud possessor of the pack. What I need next is some gendarmes to make up the company. Can anyone suggest suitable figures? I do not know how gendarmes dressed in Victorian times but really any suitable figures from the late Victorian period up to 1930s would probably do the trick.

Over to you, my erudite readers, for suggestions.

Regards
Tim

This article, about the pioneering use of police dogs in Ghent in 1899, has some useful photos:

They look rather different from the Belgian gendarmerie uniforms portrayed in the Tintin books, and worn below by what I believe to be re-enactors of the WW2 era.

a good Proxy for the gendarmes could be the brigade models WWI belgians. their senior officer is rather good.

Just remembered. Within the release of May '40 NEW range of Dutch infantry there was somewhere one figure of NCO in their older uniform in their kepi. If they release this figure, it could be a good miniature for a Dutch/Belgian gendarme. Let;s hope they will do.
