Anyone know of scenery ranges that contain a large satellite dish?
I am aware of several small ones but am looking for something that would be a 4m or 5m dish in scale
The only one I found is by Quantum Gothic which is OK but a bit "steampunk" looking for my taste. I also know Micro Art do an entire radar building but I only want the dish & mounting.

How about a large Lego one? Cheap, and the biggest ones would be about the right size...

One of the laser cut mdf company do one
4 ground etc
Not sure which company though

Exactly what I was going to say. lol

Might be what you are after.

These "6 x 6" Lego ones are about 50mm in diameter:

that's the one I was thinking of

Four metre would be at least six inches, probably more, right? Whoops, think I got the divisor backwards. :o
How about a large styrofoam or PS ball, or even half sphere. I assume you don't want it near perpendicular on the sides, but you take a really large ball and slice a piece off.

It's sometimes worth checking out your local £ shops to see if they have a toy with one. I have often seen them in sets with toy soldiers etc.

When buying Lego I would recommend BrickLink.com (http://BrickLink.com) prices there are about 10% of those on eBay.

Following on from YPU suggestion of BrickLink, a quick search for 'dish' provides quite a few options:

Not sure most of the suggestions would work without additions.
The point of a satellite dish is for radio waves arriving across a relatively large area to hit the large dish surface and be reflected back so that they concentrate on a receiver, which is at the end of a pole in the middle. So all those frame-only models would need to be covered, and a receiver added.
-
Most of the lego dishes are fully surfaced, the one used as an example is frame one though.

Here's an MDF one from Terrakami, but at 25cm it might be too large for what your'e looking for:

3d print it up. You model it and I will print one up for you.
I actually tried to print a radio telescope dish with a diameter of 100mm and found that the overhangs toward the center of a dish with the same parabola as modern dishes was too much to print. I found I had to distort the shape closer to spherical which looked pretty goofy.

Wargame Model Mods do this one:

Systema Gaming do one too but it's acrylic.

were you using supports? did you cut the model up before printing?
I had a 25mm diameter support in the center that I'd intended to remove and replace with a receiver, but it still wasn't enough as the curve gets near flat towards the center. Any more support would have been a true pain to remove afterword. I did look at splitting the dish in half but figured having the print lines run across the face of the dish instead of around the circumference would look awful. I moved on to other projects, but if I ever went back to it I'd go with flat segments like the MDF kits.

Depending on the printer I think you might have been better of flipping the dish over. The flat part could go on the bottom of the print bed and you could have rings of supports. Since those would connect to the outside they would be easy to remove and sand flat.

True, but I really hate cutting and sanding supports. If I can't print something without a support, I tend to move on. I've wanted to give this one a try but haven't had time to put it in the cue:

Thanks for all the suggestions there......either they were really well hidden, or I am really crap at google search. :?
Some lovely models, that last one is amazing.

I've got this one. It's also got a motor so the dish can turn and the dish is available either in mdf or coloured acrylic.

Keep an eye on the "Terrain Corner" section of Tabletop Gaming News. Lots of really nice MDF, resin, mats etc show up there. That's where I saw the Terrakami one and I'm pretty sure the Wargame Model one was on there too a while back. Great for inspiration.

It does look good in the render. And if you don't like the print-out, snip a few bits off and you've got a novelty shuttlecock for badminton.

Just found this one (1/2 way down)
