I've bought the basic FG book and have been playing it for a few weeks and really like it but I'm not using it in the FG setting.
My question is do the newer books, Lich and Pacts?, add any new rules/spells/characters

They add some new stuff. Mostly they are different campaigns. The new stuff includes monsters, some new henchmen, some spells and new magical items/weapons. Worthwhile and nice to have but not an end all.
Snitchy sends.

The Sellsword pdf has probably the most interesting addition: Captains. The other books are interesting, but not needed as such. More monsters and scenarios are always cool.

I'd say Sellsword and Dark Alchemy are a must. Sellsword for the Captains, Dark Alchemy for the new potions list and awesome mini-campaign.
-
None of them are "must purchase".
That said, they all add something to the game, so really it's up to you. Personally I'd say get them all.
-
I'm waiting for the round up book that will include them all... we play once in a long while so no great loss for waiting for a while.

Nope- you need nothing. My gaming group uses only the core book, and it's freaking perfect as is.
-
The core book will get you started and whet your appetite, the other books are just icing on an allready good cake, but who doesnt like a bit of icing? lol
If you can get them then by all means do so, they will add a little more to the game and give you a lot of extra scenarios .
As this game is so flexible you can pretty much do what you want.
There are a few posts that people have created their own scenarios, you can do the same.
The thing I've found is that if you are playing with a fun bunch of people you can experiment, come up with a scenario to match the scenery you have and play it, if it goes badly pear shaped either change the scenario or just forget it happened and try another :)
Remember, this is a fun game and if it works for you guys , then nobody is gonna come knocking on your door and tell you you're playing it wrong ..
Good luck

By what I've read and the battle reports I've seen, it's well worth getting the extra books if you like the game and can afford them. I intend on buying all the printed books little by little. Might have them all by the time I assemble and finish painting my Warband, potential upgrade characters and monsters.

Need? No......but get the eSupplements for sure ot wait until the Folio in 2017.
Personally....they're so affordable I'd go ahead and get them anyway!
