Title: Mantic TWD All Out War
Post by: Suetonius Paullinus on 30 October 2016, 09:35:27 PM
I got my KS box yesterday and had a first go at painting the figures today. Gotta say I'm very please with the quality this time. Certainly better than Dungeon Saga!
Some details a wee bit on the shallow side but others are really well crisp.
All in all excellent gaming figures imho. Kudos to Mantic.

Nice paint job!
I'm thinking of having mine painted in shades of grey to stay true to the comics (and it's much faster)
Hope to get mine soon

Certainly better than Dungeon Saga!

That's not hard. I'm pretty sure I've seen gravel with better detail than the DS minis.

Nice painting on Rick, you really captured the muted browns of his uniform and the dark bloodstain looks absolutely genuine.

Beautiful looking board and minis. I'm painting my set bit by bit but nowhere near this standard.

How did you weather the die-cast type cars in there? I've tried washes before but they don't seem to adhere right. Is it just a case of Matt varnishing first?

Lovely. When I'm rich with vast amounts of storage space I'm going to get loads of that 4ground stuff.

Where are the dead dead corpses in that pic from?

Can't speak for the poster's approach, but my toy car weathering approach is:

- take the thing apart if possible
- matt varnish the outside. This will frost the windows if they're still in the car, and is the main reason I dismantle it first. The other big reason is that it lets me get at the wheels and wheel wells more easily
- use washes to tone things back and force some shadows, then cheap craft paints and sponge to weather the crap out of everything ;D
- put the car back together. I also glue the wheels in place, but that's as much to stop them rolling about in storage as anything

The game looks fun though. I avoided the KS, now just need to talk myself out of buying it at retail :) I'm hoping that the figures will be released separately, as there are some I'd definitely like to get.

I've only painted minis, the scenery is from the guys over at Beasts of War.
But Matt Varnish was certainly involved. Check their vlogs, they've made some tutorials for this!

That terrain is hot!  I haven't had the pleasure of many 4ground kits (just assembled a GP wagon for old west) but they changed my perception of mdf kits.  Everything was cut all the way through, went together wonderfully and was loaded with fine details.  I had put together some knight games scatter stuff and wanted to throw it off a cliff as I built it and afterword.

Go for it mate! Hands down, one of the best games I've played over the last ten years.
Easy to learn, easy to tweak, unpredictable and fun. Solo or multiplayer.
Mantic's first masterstroke imho!

That infantryman is great looking as well. What model is that? He seems to fit in size with TWD.

The 32mm Marine is a resin figure from Black Scorpion. I think the range might be discontinued tho  :(

It's an app called Prisma, you can see the app logo in the lower right corner of the pic.

Great app, I have used it to make a comic about the TYW, for example. Well that and few other apps.

Got my core set through the post today.  Everyone has commented on the miniatures but I wasn't expecting them to be quite so good (owning quite a few Mantic games and having certain expectations) but they really are brilliant.  Easily Mantics best stuff.

I ran through the initial training scenario and the rules seen a lot of fun too.  They got me sneaking around trying to avoid the zombies, as is right and proper. I think this game is going to be a lot of fun.  I'm already deciding what expansions and boosters I'll be getting.

Are they going to bring out a 3D camper van like they've done with the rest of the terrain? I'd be all over that

These look rather nice! Good use of colours, very appropriate thematically. The terrain is interesting as such, might consider investing.

Saw it today in my local gaming store. It does look nice. The fact there's a stand alone solo game and the core set can be solo too is very appealing. I wish I got in on this Kickstarter.

Very, very tempted as the quality of the miniatures does look good.

Great looking figures, terrain and game set ups. The additional cool picture effects are also fantastic. I bet you will enjoy using them in many games to come. Thanks for sharing.
