Title: 20mm Post Apocalyptic Drivers - Update 5th December 2019
Post by: Cait Sidhe on 02 November 2016, 01:15:58 PM
UPDATE - 5th December 2019: So after getting a new caster I finally got a small restock of these drivers on the exact day Northstar announce theirs...  ;D The background behind this and the pics are below though all of the nice pictures of folk's conversions in the thread are gone. Compared to when I commissioned these there's a lot more minis available now than when I started this thanks to the popularity of Gaslands and other post apoc car games but if anyone wants to buy any of these sets they're available at the following prices (postage not included):

£3 per pack of 3 minis
£8.50 for 3 packs.

Each pack constitutes the 3 minis from one theme, warguys, raiders or greasers. Just to clarify, I'm based in the UK but more than willing to post international which shouldn't be too expensive for standard postage (tracked and signed is quite a bit more though). If you are interested just PM me here, I don't have a website/store or anything, I can take payment by PayPal.

Last year In 2015 (man, time flies) I decided to do some post apocalyptic auto carnage gaming (I may have watched Fury Road around that time... :D ) using matchbox/hotwheels scaled diecasts. The lack of drivers for cars though meant most had to have armoured or otherwise covered windows and I found that the old Dark Future driver minis were neither common or all that cheap to pick up. I dabbled a bit in converting 1/72 historical minis but ultimately decided to commision a few minis of my own and have them cast up. It's taken a while to get to this point for various reasons but they're finally with the caster now. :)

The drivers are about the same size as DF minis but a bit less 'heroically' proportioned in terms of head size and chunkiness. They're two part as I wanted full minis usable as gunners or something as well and it's easy to snip the legs to fit them into a car:

...and compared to a matchbox car:

I had the original sculptor (Mate Lavotha aka Zorro) make some variants in two distinct flavours. First are some War... uh guys... Apologies in advance for my crap photography:

and some raider types:

I also made my own variants based on the original, some greasers for my hotrod type cars. I was pretty pleased with them and decided they were good enough to send off for casting along with the rest:

I'm not aiming to start a commercial venture but as with these types of personal projects I'll have extra available for sale to try and make back some costs. I don't have exact pricing yet but they'll be available in sets of 3, for each of the themes once I have casts back, if anyone's interested. (Now available, see top of post)

Thanks folks.  :)

The caster should be able to get started on these next week after Crisis is done at which point I'll know how many fit in a production mould etc. and be able to give more info.

Cheers, I'll definitely join now that I'll be starting converting my cars again. Wouldn't feel right joining a group and immediately trying to flog stuff though.

I have casts back now and have updated the original post with prices. I have some pics of the inked metals which have turned out worse than my original photos so... down here they'll stay. If you squint really hard you can get an idea of how the metals came out. :P

UPDATE: Apologies for the delay but I have the metal casts back from the caster now. They work out a bit more expensive than I originally estimated but if anyone is interested they'll be £3 per pack of 3 minis (postage not included) or I can give a bit of a discount on 3 packs for £8.50. Each pack constitutes the 3 minis from one theme, warguys, raiders or greasers. Just to clarify, I'm based in the UK but more than willing to post international which shouldn't be too expensive for standard postage (tracked and signed is quite a bit more though). Just for clarity, is that a standard sized MB/Hotwheels car, and do the drivers fit inside. The drivers look good, but with those interiors I wonder if the models are a tad too small for 1:72 scale figures? I hope not, I have a project these would be perfect for!

and some raider types:

Still got a bunch of these guys available if folk are still interested.

My first painted one... is a corpse in a wreck.  lol

This guy was miscast with little stumpy arms so I re-purposed him.

They work like a charm ;-)

I posed one here next to a Devil's Run flamer, and a mish mash of 1/72nd scale medieval/soviet biker. They are pretty damn spot on.

They are easy enough to pose and modify too :-) I've used one to make a flamer, and another for a proper War Boy stance.

And I've since made a couple of gunners to go on my War-Rig with the raider style drivers ;-)

They do the job nicely.

It's been a while since I got these minis, but my project took longer than anticipated.

The driver miniatures are incredibly flexible and posable.  I even managed to turn one into a motorcycle driver, as you can see in the images.

I thank you for offering these Cait Sidhe.  You made my Warboy gang complete!

The bike is from the Stan Johansen Road Warrior line of minis.  It was a partially damaged one I got in a lot without a rider. I finally found a use for it.

With a little work they can be quite versatile.

Apologies to anyone after them but I am now completely out of warguys and raiders (at least for now) and have updated the first post accordingly. I have a handful being cast but they're spoken for at the moment. I don't really want to get a lot cast up as all the sets share the same mould but the greasers haven't sold nearly as well and I don't want to get them piled up even more.

I will get more cast once I finish some variants and have new moulds made with the more popular options. :)

I have the full set, and they are all worthwhile. One can even 'shave' the greasers a bit, or turn that bouffant into a helmet!
