The bridge of La Fière (Rule System: Victory Decision)
A crucial task for the 82nd Airborne division was taking the bridge over the Merderet river and of the bridges in Chef-du-Pont, to the West of Sainte-Mère-Église. From the 6th to the 9th of June in 1944 fierce combats were fought in the area of La Fière, which had been intentionally flooded and turned into swampland by the Germans.
At dawn of a company of the 505th Parachute Infantry Regiments and soldiers of the 507th and 508th Regiments stormed the small hamlet of La Fière and the Merderet bridge. In the late afternoon, German units, in spite of Panzer support, failed to retake the bridge.
During both following days, the Germans launched several counterattacks, but the American soldiers held their positions, in spite of a lack of ammunition. On the 9th of June, General John Gavin ordered an attack across the flooded terrain to get the road under control. Supported by tanks from Utah Beach, the paratroopers finally succeeded in taking the village of Cauquigny. This victory ended the fighting around La Fière.
This scenario represents the fighting around the bridge, from the dropping of the pathfinders, the marking of the landing zones until the German counterattack, which might be supported by captured French tanks

Interesting and challenging scenario. :-*
I was toying with the project of a mini campaign for Chain of Command.
How do you represent the crossing of the flooded area?
According to the survivors they ran over their comrades corpses...
I was thinking of a scenario in which the crossing has already ended, but the paras deploy with heavily reduced forces.
Do you have Stephen Ambrose booklet?
Ciao
