Last Saturday we played the Battle of Torgau in our club. We used Volley& Bayonet rules. Here are some pics. In the actual battle, the Prussians attacked desperately the Austrian positions on the hill. It was a costly victory for the Prussians. This time Prussians tried something more sophisticated. They pinned the Austrians on the hill, using only half of their troops, and tried to cut the Line Of Communcations LOC as indicated on the map. [Victory conditions for the Prussians in this scenario were: seize the hill, or take the LOC East of the battlefield] The Prussians almost succeded, but at the last moment of the last round the Austrians stole victory from the jaws of defeat ! You will see-hope you like it...

Now the Prussians have managed to pin the main Austrian army on the hill and try to outflank the enemy: the Austrians hold a strong position between two marshy streams and they still have good troops to defend it
-
the hard fighting: Prussians attack from left and right on Lacy's Corps. the Austrians commit their reserves to stem the Prussian tide

Thank you so much. One last pic from the battle...

Thanks, Torgau is a battle I've always thought not doable using a single table's width.

Thanks for giving this thread a bump, Dinthedin, very inspiring pictures and AAR. I've always liked the Volley and Bayonet rules, for supporting refights of big historical battles in a reasonable amount of time, less than a day. It takes a lot of work to prepare a scenario, it's been years since I ran one. I like the use of labels on the stands in this game. Very well organized. Wish I'd been there. For the game, not for the battle.
Great looking figures, by the way, and mass quantities of them. I like it.

Beautiful AAR Miltos.
Cheers

[zippyfusenet]: You said it all! Indeed, I enjoy big battles with V&B, especially when there is a second or a third battle line involved. Preparing the labels is some sort of headache, but usually we share it by teamwork.

Hi everybody!
Nice to see you played Torgau with V&B. I was the one which wrote the original Torgau scenario for V&B which was later put in Frank Chadwick SYW scenario book: I am also the author of the Kronoskaf article on the battle:

I have two armies in 6mm, full scale based (3"x 1.5") which can be seen on my blog (scroll to the earlier posts):

Sooner or later I'll play the battle... ;)

Your description of the battle of Torgau in the Kronoskaf is by far the most thorough and most detailed. Every enthousiast of the period must read it. We are looking forward to your game and pics of the battle
