Does anyone make a good laser-cut mdf tramp steamer model?
I Have seen Miniature Scernery's very steam-punky 'modified pirate vessel' take on it, and I know TTCombats cargo ship, which can be modified to have the bridge midship, but is too low for my taste (for this purpose).

Sarissa Precision in the UK do one.

They have a 10% sale on too. It looks pretty decent.

I'm not seeing a tramp steamer on that page, Elk?
I see a "colonial river steamer", but that's not the same thing.
It's not MDF, but Tin Soldier has the SS Minos paper kit: http://tin-soldier.com/ssminos.html

Oops, you're right, I was thinking paddle steamer not tramp steamer!
I'm sure there is a UK company that did on in resin. I'll try and find it.

I would prefer an mdf model - both because it costs much less in postage (weight), and because I like the sheer possibilities for customizing and pimping, as opposed to working with a big lump of poisonous resin. Much higher chance of full interiors, too.

edit: Never mind, should have read the 1st post more closely lol

If you can get your hands on the Playmobil cargo ship, with a bit of modification they are just right.

Not quite a tramp steamer or mdf but this is the one I was thinking of:
Clyde steamer

Argonor, I think that for the price, details and overall easy of customization, the TT Combats ship should have given a second consideration... Have you ever considered leveling up her waterline with foam or something?

Agreed 100% ;)

The Clyde puffer is great. Always wanted this for my VBCW Glasgow forces.

I got the TTcombat cargo ship and it was a little low in the water line so I got a relative to cut a piece of scrap wood to heighten it.

Then with some sand paper and plastic wood to fill the gaps it looks reasonable.
Hope this helps.

Damn, now you have me thinking about how to make nice cargo holds in that kind of construction lol
I have seen an alternative build using an add-on section behind the bridge for an even more 'tramp steamer' look. It should be possible to add a funnel/stack some how, too...

That hull looks way better!

That's the idea, great built! ;)
