Title: British Paratrooper Painting tutorial
Post by: Janick on 16 February 2009, 06:16:54 PM
I finally put this together...I hope some of you find it useful!  :D

Colors needed, all Vallejo: Green Ochre, Reflective Green, Beige Brown, Flat Earth, Flat Black, Russian Uniform Green, Red, Green Gray, British Uniform, White, and Iraqi Sand. For faces (GW paints) I used Tanned flesh, Dwarf Flesh, and Elf flesh. I used two washes, Devlin Mud, and the brown face wash.

First I start with a primed figure, which I happened to prime black.

I paint the smock completely over with Reflective Green
(http://i196.photobucket.com/albums/aa302/janick616/DSCN1468.jpg)
I then start to add stripes and shapes of Flat Earth, and then I also painted the main body of the canteen with Flat Earth.

Then I do the same with Green Ochre. You should paint over the other colors, but not completely.

Paint all the webbing with Iraqi Sand

Then give the webbing a wash of Devlin mud
(http://i196.photobucket.com/albums/aa302/janick616/DSCN1474.jpg)
I only washed the main creases and folds on the smock…which you can do if you want too.
While I was waiting for the wash to dry I painted the gun stock Beige Brown
(http://i196.photobucket.com/albums/aa302/janick616/DSCN1475.jpg)
I then highlighted the webbing after the wash
(http://i196.photobucket.com/albums/aa302/janick616/DSCN1476.jpg)
I then moved on to the face which I painted Tanned Flesh
(http://i196.photobucket.com/albums/aa302/janick616/RSCN1480.jpg)
Then gave it a wash
(http://i196.photobucket.com/albums/aa302/janick616/RSCN1479.jpg)
Then I painted it over with Dwarf Flesh
(http://i196.photobucket.com/albums/aa302/janick616/DSCN1481.jpg)
Then I mixed 50/50 of Elf and Dwarf Flesh and highlighted the face.

For the rope-like webbing and cup I used Green Gray…or use white.
For the pants I darkened British Uniform with some black for a base on the pants.
I lighted the darkened British Uniform with a little bit of white

And finally just put on straight British uniform

The beret is a 50/50 mix of red and Flat Earth
(http://i196.photobucket.com/albums/aa302/janick616/RSCN1489.jpg)
About finished, I usually paint the gaiters or boot thingys last with Iraqi sand
(http://i196.photobucket.com/albums/aa302/janick616/RSCN1494.jpg)
Helmets, grenades, mortars, etc. are Russian Uniform Green and for the camo on top the helmet I used Green Ochre and a couple different shades of brown. Also paint the eagle on the beret silver. Then I usually highlight the guns with silver.

A few more for reference

Hope this helps.
