Title: Sources to send review copies of a game?
Post by: Elbows on 13 December 2016, 07:45:17 PM
So,

As many of you know, I produce an Old West miniatures game called Shoot N' Skedaddle.  It's finally in a form I'm comfortable with beginning to advertise.  I'll be ordering 5-6 copies to send out for reviews and I was wondering who people would recommend to review said game.  I had exchanged messages from Ash from Guerrilla Miniatures a while back but have not re-kindled that conversation (he was quite busy/stocked at the time).

I was planning to send a copy to the guys at Beasts of War, etc.  What pages, blogs, forums, or YouTube channels do you guys recommend - namely those who would have an interest in playing a game or two, or giving it a look over?  Being a one-man show I won't be sending tables worth of terrain, simply the rules/decks necessary etc. - the reviewers would be responsible for miniatures/scenery if they felt up to giving it a shot.

Suggestions? Is it worth sending a copy to print media anywhere?

Guerrilla Miniature Games on You Tube.

In fact I think Ash occasionally posts here too.

That's a great shout. He does regular spotlights in smaller indie games as well,  I first came across his channel because of his Relicblade videos. A very professional well made finished production as well.

And I'm sure I heard him mention in his vlog series he's got stuff for wild west gaming, so even better.

Yeah, I'll hit him up again.  We spoke shortly on Facebook maybe 3-4 months back.

Tabletop Gaming News has a review section - http://www.tabletopgamingnews.com/category/reviews/ - may be worth checking

There's also the Tabletop Games magazine to consider - https://www.tabletopgaming.co.uk/

Or you could do a youtube playthrough yourself and advertise that - I hear it's what all the cool kids are doing these days lol

Best of luck :)

Yeah, sadly my HD camera uses that stupid old port that no one produces anymore, so videos won't be happening until I find a new camera.  lol  I do submit to TGN for small blurbs so I've sent something their way.

Can't you pop out the SD-card and insert into a card reader which plugs into your pc? My camera has a broken port, so that's how I get my photos and video on my pc.
This idea:

I don't have a card which will hold full HD video (it's a bajillion gigs uncompressed even for a 10-15 minute video).  My HD camera is old, like 2008 or so.  Not up to current stuff.

Thanks Phil, much appreciated as it's quite labor intensive but don't we all like new miniatures and games!  :)
