Post by: Hammers on 19 December 2016, 01:20:21 PM
Dave and I, that is to say Bullshot and Hammers, are pooling our resources to host a game at the 10th jubilee British Lead Adventure Meet next year. This thread will hold our progress as we list and add fluff, rules development, miniatures, terrain, vehicles, propaganda material, scratch builds and perhaps even a test game or two. We have already had a lively and productive discussion via private messages but by the advice of fellow BLAMers it has been suggested we make them public for the entertainment and edification of the greater forum. I suppose not all will be revealed, I think both Dave and I want to put a few surprises on the game board at the actual event.

We are much looking for your comments and suggestions. Given the inventory we've both taken both painted miniatures and contents of our respective lead piles we are well prepared for the task ahead.

Much of the stuff we are going to use can be found in this thread: A Cool Jazz Age journey throw the arctic regions with Hammers (http://leadadventureforum.com/index.php?topic=58589.0)

Bullshot is sure to post some of his chaps and gear shortly.

Title: Re: Bullshot & Hammers present: Terror Incognita! Scania Vabis
Post by: Hammers on 19 December 2016, 02:27:03 PM
This arrived today:

It is a Matchbox "Models of Yesteryear" Y16 1923 Scania-Vabis chenille, as it was used by the Swedish Kungliga Postverket (Royal Postal Service), especialy in remote northern areas.

I am looking forward to converting and weathering this to be used by the Pytheas Society, which is one of the four factions Bullshot and I are going to field in our game. Beside staining and rusting it up good, I hope I'll be able to make a digital version of the Pytheas Society's logo...

...and make transfers for the sides of the Scania and other vehicles of this scientific expedition. More fluff about the PS will be developed in this thread.

Be careful of the tracks, they perish easily.

I noticed. I will probably glue them in place. I don't really like when invited gamers move my pieces around as if they were toys. My sons excepted.
Title: Re: Bullshot & Hammers present: Terror Incognita! Dog Sleds
Post by: Hammers on 19 December 2016, 03:02:30 PM
I have had these in the pile for quite a while and it was good to have a reason to paint them up. Painting a lot of mutts is not as bad as painting lots of horses, but there is still an element of tedium in it. Converting a few keeps things interesting.

Title: Re: Bullshot & Hammers present: Terror Incognita! Muskox
Post by: Hammers on 19 December 2016, 03:31:34 PM
Those of you who know me also know that I can be without animals in the projects I am involved in. The latest addition to our Arctic adventure...

... is a muskox (Ovibos moschatus). It is just a repaint of a plastic toy.

We have plenty of beasts, some will be in play other are just for looks. Walruses, humpback whales, Steller's sealions, polar bears, Greenland seals...

I'm busy painting up arctic explorers at the moment. My biggest task for the game wil be terrain features.

As Hammer hinted,  there will be a few surprises in the game. The one thing I can guarantee is that there will be NO penguins other than a possible sighting of these:

Right you are. But hats. We have to have hats. I am quite adamant about this.

I could have but no. It is a US park services postcard from the 1930s which I have 'improved' :-). The great thing about art deco and posterism is that it is fairly easy to do digitally when you break it down. Structurally, I mean. Colors and composition you always need an eye or training for. So the iceberg is nicked, the blood and the text and the rest is me.

The blood and wordage one assumes  ;)

It's a nice touch.

There is a whole slew of tutorials out there about how to do art deco posters. They seem very popular atm. Lots of people are doing art deco verisions of modern movie posters. We may have a go at making more, you know..., 'promotional material', just ferdaheckofit.

This is something I thought we could use as a secret force objective card to be handed out to each player at the start of the game. Bullshot and I are currently planning to include four forces in our scenario. One of them will indeed be American or Canadian but the above is just an example of what it could look like.

And my economy is probably gonna be worse than ever this summer, with my eldest daughter's 'confirmation' coming up this spring, and the savings right now all but depleted by having just had the car transmission replaced..  >:(

Can't believe it's already been 9 years...  :o

Scania Vabis stripped with mighty powerful chemicals...

Next is drying and priming. I have a Hammers2000 EazyBake for the former and a HammersNeo PrimerBoot for the latter.
