These are first two bits from my Walking Dead project, Brian Blake, before he became the Governor and a car from the scenery set, the board is the first of 4 tiles I'm making, albeit with only the base colours on so far.
The little manhole cover is from Diaorama Debris (http://www.dioramadebris.co.uk/148-scale-manholes-and-drain-mould-1480080-76-p.asp)

Looking good! :)
I am a bit miffed with the large integral plastic bases - should I decide to get the game, I would have to find an effective way to remove most of them... :?
-
I love that car. Great work.
-
Beautifully done.
-
jeez, a few short months after the Apocolypse starts, and the rust proofing on the cars goes to crap....
;D
Really fantastic painting! Both look great.
-
Brilliant work.
Its also good to see some 28mm vehicles available at an accessible price.

Ha, wait till you see the trailer ;)
Thanks folks :)

Lovely brushwork!
-
Great Job, I really like the car too!

LOL, there is a very effective way - cut them free with a Hobby knife!
Honestly, works like a charm, I do it with the Zombicide minis.
Personally I really like the one piece minis.

Hmmm... Could probably do that, would be afraid to let the knife slip, though, damaging a foot.

Great work, I have been eyeing up that scenery set, nice to see how good the car can look

Sarissa Precision trailer, still needs some finishing/detailing, but it's good to go for a game next week

Stunning work....

:o :o Loving that!

Really great work! I am trying to paint some cars for my first TNT game and I don't have a clue how to make such great old paint + rust effect. Any pointers for beginner ;)? I already tried three or four online 'rust effect' tutorials but with rather disappointing outcome (mainly because of my poor painting skills).
-
Mate, seriously.
I'm getting the 'give me everything' mantic walking dead pack tomorrow. Cheers Santa.
So all of wave 1.
Plan is to blog my progression in both painting and gaming. But your painting is well up there, mine pales in comparison. Looking forward to your next stuffs. Also interested in your rust technique!
Thanks for the extra excitement for me getting my stuff!
Jay.

Thanks :)
Painting the vehicles is really quite simple, I base coated in brown, dabbed on some orange with a sponge, then 'salted' the vehicle.
Basically I sprayed the car with water and poured on table salt, sea salt and baking soda. Once it dried it will look like this
(http://i.imgur.com/EUT6VKS.jpg)
Leave it to dry for an hour or so, then spray with your top coat using an airbrush (mine is just a cheap 10 quid Chinese airbrush from ebay)
Once dry wash away the salt with warm water and an old toothbrush and your done :)
You can add in some extra stains using vallejo smoke
The trailer I pretty much did the same way, but after washing away the salt and leaving to dry I weathered it with cheap dry pastels (4 quid in one of those discount book shops), Simply scrape the pastel to create a powder, dab it on with a brush and then fix it with isopropanol/rubbing alcohol (5 quid for a big bottle), just dab some on and leave it to evaporate and your pastels will stay on.
I tried out a little Decoart crackle glaze after that but at anything over 6 inches away the effect is kinda lost on the eye :(
It looks good close up though.

After that I just do washes with vallejo smoke

Some of my walkers so far.

Nice!
-
Really nice set of walkers. Thanks for the weathering tips, I will definitely try this technique.
-
Very nice, your pastels tip is spot on, you can use them in the same way you'd use pigment powders, but for a fraction of the cost (some matt varnish over the top helps keep the in place).

First dozen zombies done and some barriers from the scenery set

Well done.
I like how dark you made the skin. I went with a much lighter color so I guess mine look more fresh.
Good work on the barricades as well.
-
Great looking figures! Bryan and the car look stunning. The walkers and scenery are sharp as well but it looks like you went to town on the proto-Governor. I have to get more TWD sets :) .

I've always been scared of doing the old salting thing, plus after a bad experience with a GW air brush and several wasted cans of gas and paint pots, I now prefer to do as much as I can with a brush.
Now I use modelmates rust effect, and find it both fun and easy to work with and gives a nice convincing finish.
I use the dark and lighter tones for varying up the tone, but you could probably achieve a similar effect just using the mid tone rust effect in various concentrations and using inks once it's been varnished if you're on a budget.
To the OP, your terrain is looking really nice, would love to see an everything so far set up group shot :-*
-
Can I ask how you did the bases for the Walkers? Really nice and effective.
-
Thanks folks :)

I "cheated" and used the GW technical paints, agrellan (sp?) earth, then some astrogranite bits, i washed the earth with sepia wash as it was a bit light. Pretty quick and easy.
-
That rust really is great. Must give it a go.
-
Fantastic work! :)
-
Thanks guys, tonight I have Lee Majors, starring as Rick Grimes in The Walking Dead

Brilliant painting and weathering!
-
Excellent.
The bases look really good, I have never seen the technical paint used.
Excellent paint jobs on the figures.
The first time I have seen the barricades painted, very inspiring.
-
thanks again for the kind words
Tonight I painted Derek, leader of the scavengers, I normally avoid trying to paint black, but well.

Fantastic!! The minis, the cars, the bases, the trailer...everything is cool.
But, I'm most smitten with the barriers. Really nice!
-
Awesome job on Derick! The black came out looking very good in spite of your reservations and the face is fantastic.
-
Very good.
-
Thanks for the kind words guys :)

Isn't it ironic that the things I spent the least amount of time on came out so well :)
A testament to the sculpts clearly.

Quick paint job on another scavenger tonight, Patrick.

The green and orange outfit works really well. Wood bat was a nice choice as well and suits your other colour choices.
-
Please share your wood bar recipe because I just can't get it right! I've tried mixing brown and earths with yellows and it never has the same effect!

I used foundry's Base Sand triad with a citadel sepia wash after the base coat

Excellent, and thanks for the bat recipe.

Penultimate Scavenger gang member from the core boxed set Sandra.

Nice! Of the three Scavenger models I like Sandra best and your paint job nailed it. The skin tone you achieved makes the figure :)!

I went with the foundry Native American fleshtone paint for Sandra as I felt it would suit her better, glad you like it :)

Quick paintjob on Jim this afternoon, loved the mini apart from it's horrible fingers
(http://i.imgur.com/SyABcHo.jpg)
-
Nice! I really like how that figure came out. The colours are crisp and the warm/cool contrast from top to bottom really grab my eyes. I'm just starting into the comics so I'm not sure of Jim's age on paper so when I get mine I will try to paint him as the younger AMC version played by Andrew Rothenberg.
-
Very good.
-
Nice! I really like how that figure came out.
Of all TWD figures so far, he's my favourite, albeit let down by the fingers/gun, it's a bit indistinct on my model, which is a shame, so it was a bit of a pain once I came to the hands. But I like his pose and face.
-
Great project, CONGRATULATIONS! ;)
-
Quick paint job on the TTCombat gas station (love their stuff) with a couple of ainsty dumpsters(?)
-
The station looks fantastic! TT make some beautiful kits and you managed to give it a perfect retro treatment. Whether a walker mechanic stumbles out in a TWD scenario or a robot gas attendant comes out on a monowheel in a peak cap in TNT it's perfect for both.
-
Very good, the miniatures look good as well.
-
Job hunting has left no time for painting of late :(
But I did get an hour spare this evening to paint a vending machine full of Tara's favorite soft drink
(http://i.imgur.com/8OQVUeV.jpg)
-
Excellent.
-
Really fantastic looking stuff... You have the perfect balance of contrast and highlights on these figures and terrain.
-
Did a little bit of work on the board tonight, including wiring up the lights, so now poor Brian needs to get himself some gas in order to christen the board
(http://i.imgur.com/F9d2dx7.jpg)
-
Great looking board!
-
Very atmospheric! 8)
-
Wow, that's cool!
-
Very slick! Colour me jealous lol ! How did Brian do on his excursion?
-

very badly :)
I played a few games last night, some with a scavenger duo and things can go bad very quickly in this game, walkers bunch up on a herd card then a car alarm goes off and the next thing you know your facing 10 red dice
great fun though
-
I'm starting on a scenery board around the Green Family farm, so I "upscaled" a TTCombat mdf building by adding some tiles cut from foamed PVC and a stone foundation from some hirst arts blocks.
Put the base colours on yesterday, next step is to washes, highlights and some weathering
(http://i.imgur.com/CVSH1nH.jpg)
-
Lovely stuff. Feeding on this thread for my own project.
-
That looks good.
Which building?

Which building?
It's the Grey Harbour house C

Thanks.
-
Superb.
Now you need a barn.
-
I just received this same exact building. While I don't have the HirstArt items, I think I could make the something similar with some insulation foam board. Once I finish the convenience store from TTCombat, I will be taking on this building. Thanks for the ideas for the direction with this building.
-
I see a great IMPROVEMENT on that building, CONGRATULATIONS! ;)
-
Thanks guys :)
Working away Monday to Thursday leaves very little time for painting these days, but I hope to get this finished thsi weekend before starting the next bits of scenery
-
Looking awesome. It's people like you that are making these MDF buildings grow on me :P . The embellishments and additions you have made to your structures have..... made them yours :D . I am glad more people don't take the time to inject such character into their MDF products and use them as is. I would have to squander/divide my miniature fund on terrain too if it looked like that much fun :D .
