Title: Big Battle Biblicals?
Post by: LeadAsbestos on 23 December 2016, 01:06:03 AM
If, just if, I wanted to play a big battle with Biblicals or Trojan War armies, what would folks recommend? I'm familiar w/ WAB, but nothing else really.
Thanks!

Warlord Games "Hail Caesar" rules.

Take a look at these: http://sumer2sargon.blogspot.com/2012/11/bbsw-rules.html?m=0

For old school rules you could go with WRG 6th, Tactica or Ancient Empires.

For a simple but subtle game I prefer DBA - did a refight of Issus using 6mm figures on a 12' table in 3 hours rcently

Had a good game of Hail Caesar earlier this week - 28mm, New Kingdom Egyptian v Myceneans. The only other system I have used for Biblicals is DBM, back when I used to play almost exclusively in 15mm. Quite happy with both sets.
I like the look of the Bloody Barons mod, nice period feel - thanks for that link, MG!
Cheers
Paul.

To The Strongest, Sword & Spear, and Field of Glory all work fine for Biblical big battles.

My vote would be DBM

I'm a fan of DBMM.  I know it's not to everyone's taste but it's the best I've come across for modelling ancient combat.  It rewards the player with a plan who uses the tactics of the period and gives good looking games with plausible outcomes in 2 to 3 hours.
Apparently there is a version 2.1 out.
The only downside is it's written in Barkerese.

Lion rampant played as a smaller scale version of Hail Caesar works well

There's also Rob Broom's (formerly of WAB) War and Conquest.

I'd stick with WAB1.5 and the Chariot Wars supplement. Does all you need a good fun game to do!

Hail Caesar has my vote. Great rules in my opinion.  :)

I had our set published in The WI with the Egyptian chariots on the cover
Can't remember the number?!
They are simple but not simplistic fun and free!

Full Impetus or Basic Impetus 2 both give great large battle games.

I've just acquired an Assyrian to take on some Minoans (not quite valid opponents but should be a good match up) using MeG.
