Well that's something I'd never come across before.
And there I thought the short-lived 'Game of War' (in the 90s I think, Channel 4?) was the only example. Can't find a clip of that though.
The Gettysburg episode (also on Youtube) describes Wargaming as the fastest-growing hobby in the world...

Swedish golden showers aside (I understand that flag a lot better now... ;D ), I must admit to having watched many an X-Wing game on Youtube:
American style games commenters, with on-screen graphics and top down camera's make for interesting viewing. And they cut or FFW the setup and moving sequences, keeping the pace.
Especially the various tournaments and nationals are good; I learned a lot from watching those games, and I did think it was entertaining viewing. Heck; I even shouted at some of the player's stupid mistakes at times, and good games were sometimes real nail biters.
It's not that odd really; after all there are more people watching football games on TV than there are actually playing, and football is a participation sport too (or so I understand... :D ).

One of the worst things I've ever seen...Magic The Gathering used to be on ESPN(2?). I saw it in high school, the late 90's.

Now that was just naff. Of course the VCR distortion and the (now) cringe-worthy nineties clothes and hairdo's did not help, but dang... lol lol

I find it almost impossible to get excited about a wargame I'm not a part of. It's the decision making and thinking that makes it worthwhile.
Watching it is - frankly - pretty boring. No wonder it didn't take off. (If only it had)
That said, my mantra is that if you are clever enough and pitch it from the right angle - you can make absolutely anything exciting and interesting.

I have to say that's a damn cool idea. Something which would be really useful in a variety of situations. A rod with a sliding 'T' on it...each side of the 'T' marked (say a D10 roll, 5" per side?) Lots of applications for that. (for use in tank games?) Admittedly a scatter dice and template is nearly as useful but I like the stick idea.

I'd not seen that before. I got quite into it.
I think there is definitely room for something like that online (if not on TV). Time Commanders and Table Top (with Wil Weaton) are both popular in their own way.
I'd love to watch games being played by interesting players, commented on by experts, designers and the like. I think I could be really engaging.

Mock and scoff all you want but when that came out I had never seen a real wargame set up like that before. I had just purchased my first Hinchliffe ECW figures and the first episode did Edgehill I think and to see them all set up and painted on real terrain was brilliant. It is very dated now but remeber no internet in them days, catalogue for figures were usually just a description of the model so bought unseen. Dated yes but important to old duffers like me. :)
