I need a new pump for my vac chamber. Can anyone recomend a good one, or a place to get one, or indeed anyone I should talk to about it?
Cheers!

I'd be likewise interested in where and what to get in the area of both vacuum pumps and chambers. It's for hobby related use, so no silly innuendos about my manhood, please.

Well being on the other side of world from you it tuff to recomend something but I would check dismantelers or junk yard type places. I got lucky and got my by chance at a swap meet. I found a new labratory pump ($2500 cost!) for $80 from a guy who was remodeling a colleges lab! Refrigarator pumps can be used and an internet search can stear you to the info.

Just bought a new 76 litre vac setup myself from Mouldlife (http://www.mouldlife.co.uk/) - fantastic piece of kit, fantastic service as ever. They do a lovely little self-contained starter setup for about £500.
Island Scientific (http://www.island-scientific.co.uk/CylindicalChambers.asp) is where we got our last two machines. Cheaper and noisier than the Mouldlife systems, and recon pumps rather than new. Shipping will probably be more, too, as they're based on the Isle of Wight.

You could check out ebay for laboratory closing down sales - should be a few of those in the present climate.
I'd look for a knf diaphragm pump, they pump down quickly and to a low pressure.
As for the chamber itself - check out the same source for dessicators which come in a variety of sizes.
hope that helps

Anyway back to the script:
As well as Geronimo's useful tip, give Jed (Antenociti's Workshop) or a shout, they should be able to suggest the erm...
right pump for you. ;)
(Oh good I've been on Frother's too long!)

I talked to both these companies, very helpful indeed. I think Im just going to get mine serviced, will be the cheapest option. Now I just need to raise the capital and take 2 weeks off casting!
