So, I am in, and while my first though was to gather up the pieces I had for some VSF floating gasbag tentacles wielding horrors I had started to draw out quite a while ago but never got around to actually finishing, I realized they are all bits except for the tentacles, so they don't count. Now that I have them out, I'll probably work on them too - anything but going back to painting GIs for Bolt Action. Such boring uniforms.
Instead, we will be putting together our own version of one of those clunky shuttles that looks like it should never fly, like the Starship Troopers movie, or Star Trek, or any number of the kits from GW. I am going to be stealing wholeheartedly from stylings and designs of the Governor General of Sector Six, and his simple yet effective shuttles.
We'll see how this goes.

Should be good :)
cheers
James

go on we are anticipating your build

Well, now that I can honestly start...

I am going with my favorite go-to material for vehicles and such that I don't feel the need for interiors. It is 'sign foam', a high-density urethane foam, rated, by pound per cubic foot (this for example, is a 15#, which means it has smaller bubbles and more material than the 10#).
I have a bin of bits off to the side, some sheet styrene, and a box of all of the little odd shaped cutout pieces you get from those wonderful lasercut kits, because I think they will make nice little panels.
-
Body work complete! Now, on to the gribblies and bits.

Main thruster is a piece of PVC piping I found in the garage.
-
Good grief, that IS fast!
-
indeed it is
-
Table saw cuts the material like a charm - took less than 15 mins to get all the angles cut after the pices were done. Now I am waiting for glue to set...
-
I need one of those saws....
Looking forward to see more.

More? More you say! Well, here you go then. The benefits to being stuck in the house due to icy road conditions, plus, well, it is bloody cold out there.
I have added wings, a couple of plates and a topfin.

Never mind the TIEs - those are for something completely different.

And, so, I was struggling for a little while this morning on what to do for landing gear, because I didn't want just wheels or such - this is a VTOL shuttle, and I needed it look a bit pulpish to give it more flexibility in my gaming.
So I made these:

And put them on like this.

I bent the straw, and filled it with casting resin to keep the curve and give me some surface to attach that was more glue-friendly. I have since added some green stuff around the joins to the ship, and once that sets, I am back to adding stuff and nonsense. I may have this thing done today at this rate.

And more work is done!

I love it when everything just seems to talk to you as you work on it. I am not sure how much more I want to put on before I start painting.
-
Almost done already! Nice little build too. 8) 8) 8)
I was uncertain about the legs, but then I thought of Bender and the Planet Express having kids, and now I'm sold :D
My only problem is I want to see it painted, but can't until the closing of the competition :(
-
Well, I am finished, I think, except for paint. I don't know if tjere are records for finishing a Build Something Contest, but here we are. Simple, not too complex, and flies like a brick.

And, I am spent. Gotta go to bed and quit binge-watching Finding Bigfoot while I build this.
-
An interesting creation to be sure!
(I was mulling over how impossible the thing I'm sticking together would be to fly but now I have less doubts).
-
Quick work - must be some record for finishing in under 24hours!
-
Very impressive - looks like it fits the bill perfectly.
:)
-
Most impressive - I haven't even started lol
-
man you are fast I haven't even started yet , got a flu at the weekend :-X
-
:o
I will be happy if I can start next week, and you are already finished.
And it looks really nice as well. Good job :)
-
Very quick work.....
Tony

Well, it isn't a complicated build, and I can work uninterrupted on a weekend, being as I don't have kids, and my wife is in the midst of a sewing project, so she is busy too (in the same room, though, so we kind of hobby together, even though it is with completely different hobbies).
-
And painted. Finished photo off to Bibbly, now to go back to any one of my million other projects!
-
My gawd. Who are you? Perry Mason?!
-
If it means I can get cool theme music, then yes, yes I am...
-
:o :o :o
Bloody hell!
It seems that I blinked some time about four weeks ago and missed this completely.
Finished in a day!
:o
I really like the design and cannot wait to see it revealed all coloured-in.
8) 8)
And bonus kudos points for knocking it out so fast.
Most impressive.
:D
-
It was painted the next day, too. ;)
I sent the photos to Bibbly - I just hope he got it, because I never got confirmation.
Next time, don't blink!
-
I like your design well done!

I did, in fact.
(shrug) We'll find out.
