A question , If I may.
Have any of you played out LRDG/SAS type raids on airfields/troopconvoys etc or skirmishes with Italian/DAK patrols; concentrating on the vehicle to vehicle combat?
After seeing the review of SHQs latest LRDG 15cwt truck I've had the crazy idea of using the old "Car Wars" rules from SJG as a basis for the above. The idea is for the troops to stay largely mounted & fight from their vehicles.
The other thought I had was to use the "Wings of War" type manouver cards to regulate the movement.
I'm not sure what scale to go for at the moment - obviously if I was playing on my private beach I'd use 1/35 but with a 5'x4' table even 20mm will be a squeeze so 10mm or 6mm look like being the winners for the present.
Any thoughts would be greatfully received.

ps. If I've posted in the wrong area, please move to a more suitable location.

never used them myself but i think there was a couple of box sets in 15mm with rules done for the flames of war range ?

I have been considering something along these lines myself although I haven't got very far with anything as yet. Wasn't sure whether to go for SAS Jeep raids on airfields or the more undercover LRDG type of raid, sneaking up and planting charges on aircraft and fuel depots.
Have gathered a few of the Revell/Matchbox LRDG sets and searching around for suitable 20mm figures, was also intested in the new SHQ vehicles, perhaps they will release a range of suitable figures.
Did make a start on a few target markers though, converted some Airfix Me109Gs into G2trop fighters. Will post some pictures when I have doctored them a little as they each have the dreaded wonky cross on the tail.
Here they are suitably edited

Too Fat Lardies dis a demo game at Salute a couple of years ago for just this.
I think it was using their Troops Weapons & Tactics rules.

You could scale the size of the target area down to represent a fraction of a larger area an in that way you can still enjoy the game if you are toying with the idea in using 15/20/28 mm scale.
Whatever you do there are a few good companies that produce very suitable minaitures and vehicles in all scales.
You don't necessary need to have specific LRDG or SAS figures. The Australians an I'm sure the Brits etc sent our Fighting patrols to hinder Rommel so there are a number of possiby scenarios there too.
Don't forget the lovely Arabs who are only loyal to those who pay and are winning!

And if you ever want to 'retaliate' there's Sonderverband Dora and the charming Ragruppamento Sahariana. lol
Oh, and don't forget Popski of course! I just had to squeeze in a Belgian didn't I?
Sting Of The Scorpion by BF isn't bad, but I'd go for the TooFatLardies offering as well.

This is more about writing scenarios than finding specific rules tailored for LRDG, isn't it? Any rule set with a decent armor/vehichle system should work. If you want a specific game/rules based around the idea the only thing I know of is Flames of War's "patrol" rules.

what about Gorka Morka? That could work as a starting point.
