I think that's an automatic loose then ;D

I may already have lost but still going to build something though.
Kudos to whoever sent their ninja saboteurs to take out my furnace...arrived home to a 0C (32F) house. The damage was superficial and quickly heat was restored to tropical warmth.
Sketching out some of my possibilities at the moment and checking my supplies:
a pirate airship - possibly the Tiger Moth from Laputa
a reimagined Space 1999 Eagle - a sleeker design
XB 982 spacio-temporal ship from the comic series Valerian et Laureline
a YT-1350xs light freighter (an extra small YT-1300 as just saw Rogue One)
Will start building later tonight; after a nice beer and a relaxing meal.
-
Brazil, Macademia, almonds, pecans, pistachios, me...all nuts ;D
A week in and still relaxing. Haven't decided which one I will make so I'm currently making both the reimagined Space 1999 Eagle and the YT-1350xs light freighter (an extra small YT-1300). I'm following an organic process to see which one gets finished based on what I feel like working on. Got this done yesterday:
The backbone of the the Eagle redux which has to strong enough to resist flexing

The YT1350xs . About 3/5th the size what the Falcon would be.

And the underbelly.

Back to adding more bits.
-
Nuts - but a good foundation for the one you do decide to drop (for now).
-
That is a cracking start to both options.
I like the start of the nose on the 1999 option and your mini version of the Falcon (the Sparrow ;)) has gotten me thinking on how to work something similar out for myself in future. The future being far, far away, that is.....

-
Great start! 8) is that foamed pvc on the Eagle?
-
Thanks.
mini version of the Falcon (the Sparrow ;))
Like it and named. I have a bottle of champagne somewhere nearby.
@Andym The nose internal structure is made from foamboard/foamcore (foam sandwiched in paper). The landing gear in progress below is made with foamed pvc.

very nice start indeed

Impressive. You must have a well tooled workshop.
-
Brilliant!

You certainly have me thinking of ways to build up an alternate Sparrow to sit in a docking bay on my own world of Outland when I get the time.
:D

Liking the ideas, loving the technique!

This.
Lovely work mate, keep it up
:)
-
Thanks all, glad to share.
Impressive. You must have a well tooled workshop.
Not compared to your workshop. I only cut a few straight lines with my mitre saw for convenience only. Steel rule, box cutter, xacto, compass, hobbysaw, glue, and a drill bit for the rest.
-
Very nice. That should look great when finished
(please change your title so I can remember which thread this one is!)

Thanks
please change your title
Oops forgot had to change it on the first post

Latest update on the Sparrow
(http://leadadventureforum.com/gallery/41/2880-261019202124-419901243.jpeg)
Just finished running superglue along the edges of the illustration board. It soaks in and hardens the edge preventing fraying. I will likely have to start painting parts of the interior soon due to accessibility reasons so likely less shots of the interior.
-
That is really coming along well!
8) 8)
A shame we cannot see any more shots of the interior, but please continue taking WIP piccies for us to admire after the contest has run its course.
I, for one, want to unashamedly steal your ideas!
;) :D
-
That looks very good :D
-
It'd be really good if the rules could be modified so those that have inaccessible areas could show the WIP with that minimal painting. :'(
Anyways, great project Braz. At some point I want to build a spacecraft with interior so it's most inspirational. 8)
-
Thanks and glad you are finding inspirational. No worries; will continue to take WIP shots of stuff can't show now and post them after the contest.
-
Thanks, I shall look forward to seeing them idc :)
-
Wow! That's going to be a corker! :o
-
Looks like I'm mostly working on the Sparrow now...will it last?
Working on the bottom of the Sparrow.
The ugly internals...functional and won't be seen.

Cladding in progress before detailing. Will try to not be too detailed as won't be seen but I will know what's there and may go overboard. ;D
(http://i940.photobucket.com/albums/ad245/Brazve/Terrain/Scifi/YT1350xs%20006.jpg)
Lots of small panels to cut out now and fit. *Sigh*
Cheers

Go, go, go! You've got time still - but it's the painting that nearly killed me last time.
-
Beautiful
:)

This looks ace! Can't wait to see whats the interior like.

Damn....forgot we need to paint our builds.....
lol
That what's worries me about my build. It's not even half done, and I don't like to paint big things.... :(
-
That's what spray cans are for guys! ;).....though saying that...I'm still getting bored painting mine. It seems to be never ending! :'(
Keep going Braz! That's coming together! How are you planning on detailing it? Do you have a bundle of model kits to sacrifice for parts for this?
-
This is really coming together well.
That little bird is going to look great when you have finished it.

:o:o :o :oWe have to paint it ?!?! lol

I do have some model kits that will make some sacrifices to the cause however will likely scratch a lot of it and anything and everything that is around is fair game. Currently trying to source a really really small kitchen sink ;).
Off to wrestle my nightmare creation ;D
-
Cladding in progress.
The bottom is all sorts of weird angles and took more time than expected.
The top is much more straight forward.

* I keep using "great" in every post - there are so many awesome projects this year.

I want to see this ready - it's coming along very well. 8) 8) 8)

Top decking is mostly complete with one slice left open so I can make final adjustments when I finish the rear engine section. The side corridor sections are ready to place but thought an update first would be nice. Detailing to start in earnest and working out the cockpit.

Building the side docking port/escape pods.
Sorted out the front landing gear and the rear ones are the same but built in tandem. Will add some cabling when I mount it.

That landing gear looks great but the Health and Safety people will have a field day with that construction.
;)
-
Its a big build, but coming together very nicely. 8)
That's some seriously strong landing gear, but I guess it needs to be to hold a model that size. >:D
-
Loving this.
-
Looks great
Keep it up
-
I agree - a great update.

This is looking very slick. It's ambitious but you're pulling it off!
-
Thanks all. Encouragement appreciated.
Some WIP pics. I'm actually further along in the detailing stage now; just don't have the latest pics.
Tick, tock. Deadline is starting to loom :o :o

It's a gorgeous build, but +1 on this. Please, take a dremel and cut those nail tips flat. If someone stumbles and lands on the ship, you want to harm them personally. :p
-

Yes I will want to harm them personally, and a few nail holes will be the least of their worries as my wrath >:( >:( >:( descends upon them lol. Actually I'm too mellow for that (and safety concerned). The entire exposed nail ends fit into a wood block (a not-Jenga piece) so it is not exposed at all and is also capped with another 1/4 inch hardboard; that plus the entire structure above should offer ample protection. I believe the stumbling would have to be off a 5 story roof top before there is a chance the nail becomes a hazard though surprisingly have not found any volunteers to test it out.
The block with the landing gear will just slot into one of the 5 slots on the underside at the end; easier to work without the landing assembly in the way.
Cheers
-
Loving how the interior is coming together.
:-* :-*
No volunteers for the 'five-storey test'...?
How disappointing.
;)
-
Very much enjoying the build and am looking forward to further development of the interior.

Really enjoying this build, and will keep watching for your progress.
I noticed a couple of stress creases in the cockpit card( one of the quirks of card modelling)Do you pre curve your card for tighter curved shapes?
Mark.
-
I'm sure I've said this before about your other builds.....I'm amazed at what some people can do with card! :o
-
This is incredible. You're creating a fully gameable location as well as a ship.
