Hi All, we have a Bronze Age Saga game we are demo-ing at the York show. With that in mind I am trying to finish off some units and eye candy, hopefully this post will motivate me to finish them. More photos on the blog.http://gapagnw.blogspot.co.uk/
As a starter below re Warlords for my two initial contingents.

Very nicely done! That's a period that holds my interest. Those Foundry Bronze Age warriors are on my wishlist... someday. There is, BTW, a Bronze Age project going on here but I'm not sure how much it is progressing, yet.
-
I will keep an eye out for that cheers. Loading some pictures of the new stuff shortly.
-
Great - a fascinating period!
-
Looking good so far! :)
-
So here are the first of the new recruits.
These 5 figures actually finish off 3 part finished units and the Hut is my first building.

I particularly like this figure converted from a double handed axe man, trimming both ends of the axe and adding two ends of a long spear. more pictures on the blog

Wow! great job on the bronze effect and I really love the hut. Also good plan to convert some of these guys, it's a really great range but unfortunately it's pretty small, I may have to do something similiar with mine. Can't wait to see more!
-
Very nice. :-* :-*
-
Nice stuff.
-
A lovely paint job on some excellent minis. Hope your game goes well and please post some more pics when it's done (can't get to York).
-
Updated photos on the blog, animals and other eye candy painted and based. http://gapagnw.blogspot.co.uk/

Love your new additions.
Hard to pick between the portal and the pigs. ;)

Four more additions to the collection and a further update on my blog with more pictures.

Very cool! :-*
Love those Perry sculpts, just wished there was more variety to choose from.
-
:-* :-* :-*
Keep it coming. :)
-
Cheers.
Your right not much choice, however with some basic conversions 9head and weapon swaps) and the addition of the odd appropriate figure you can stretch it out a bit which I hope to demonstrate when we play out game.
-
I could swear I saw some very similar figures from another manufacturer.
-
Let me know if you decide where. Some of the mediteranian Bronze age can translate, mainly the skirmishers.
-
Great stuff. Don't see much of this elsewhere.
-
Apologies photos disappeared somewhere. here they are again.

Great paint jobs, I'm thinking of starting skirmish gaming with this era but your paint jobs will put mine to shame.
Look forward to the AAR!
-
Very basic clothing, these guys really reward some simple brushwork.

Do it! Once I started Bronze Age games, it quickly became my favorite era. Lots to choose from, and a simple style pays off.
-
Was that stand of trees made using rubberised horsehair?
-
Hi not sure what its made from, but manufactured by the last valley.
-
Great looking stuff, I shall have to keep an eye out at Vapnartak :D
-
My heart is filled with joy by this thread! Please keep posting!!!
-
Very nice
-
Those are looking superb!
I wish there were comparable 10mm ranges...
-
Hi All, so I have finished the extra bits I want for the SAGA game at York. Write up o the blog put a couple of pictures below.
The warrior queen is a fantasy figure from Hassle Free and the only real indulgence I allowed myself, still the clothing is near enough to reality for me not to worry too much.;

Oh, I like her. It's Medb Queen of Battle, her very self. And the non-combatants are also delightful. Did those come straight from some company's Euro Bronze Age line, or did you customize them?
-
The Civilians are from the pack of civilians from Foundry, vast majority of the figures are from their Bronze Age Northern European range. Mabd is exactly what I was going for, red hair felt right too.
-
Did I spell that wrong
-
"Did I spell that wrong"
You mean Mabd? Medb? Mab? Maeve? I'm not sure there *is* a right way to spell it, or a wrong way. But I don't actually speak Garlic, so I'm guessing.

Test game went well, http://gapagnw.blogspot.co.uk/

Those figures look fantastic!
-
Cheers Ragnar, the game looked and played really well. Fortunately for me my partner in crime Chris will be bringing his camera so I hope to have better pictures on Sunday from the show at York.
-
Looks like a damn exciting game! Super job on those, really has the feel of the era.
-
Looking forward to seeing pics of your convention game and a report too. I love your project.
-
Only just caught on to this thread and I must say: What a cracking idea for SAGA.
Superbly well executed too.
:-* :-*
-
Any chance to see your battleboards?
-
Happy to, I will take a picture during the game tomorrow and post it. If you are interested we can then talk about how I send you a copy.
Thinking I best get some spare batteries for the camera!
-
Great looking game and figures. :-* :-*
I´m also interested to see those battleboards for my bronze age bands. :)
-
Saw this at Vapnartak today, it looked Chuffing Awesome :D 8) 8) :o
-
Wow, an really nice project.
-
Thanks very much guys, really enjoyed doing this. Below are the two battle boards and the write up, we will be getting them loaded onto the East Leeds club web site for you to download as soon as we can. Hopefully writing up a post this evening with lots of pictures but for now here are the battle boards. Not ideal but as I say will be available to download soon.

What a great project! Great figures and inspiring terrain. Please post those battle boards.
-
Hi Bloody Sword, will definitely add the Battle Boards so you can download them from the East Leeds site. Will post on here once they are loaded.
-
Nice looking table, very disappointed not to get to York this year.
Looks like you had a good time.
-
We did, the show itself had some really nice games too. The Kut game was particularly stunning.
-

Great!!!
-
In-ter-est-ing shrine. Did you scratch-build that? Or is it commercially available?
-
Available from Monolith designs as is the earth mother and some of the other buildings.
-
Lovely work and a great idea, thanks for sharing.
The Foundry BA range has some really nice minis, just a shame there aren't a few more sculpts. Sadly, the European BA is lacking in minis :(
-
There are other ranges you use for the skirmishers. Generic ancient slingers, archers and javelinmen can add a lot to the Specific Bronze Age Nordics in Foundry's range. Also some simple conversions help too.
-
Thanks Rogerc, I've made a few conversions with some Wargames Factory Numidians but just as a temporary fix.
I've never really been happy mixing ranges, they just never look quite right to me, I guess I'm just picky :D
I'm hoping to have a go at sculpting some soon(ish).
-
Best of luck with the sculpting would love to see those.
-
Thanks I'll be sure to post some pics up. :)
-
That all looks great :-* 8)
-
Really like these Foundry BA figures a lot myself. I still have a small stock of every figure twice and think that will suffice for two smallish warbands.
Indeed a few more variants would be nice but as already mentioned simple conversions can do a lot.
If you really want to stay with Foundry ( and don't mind a little flight of fantasy) take a look at WG508 Warrior characters and WG507 Priestess. GL014 Gallic Civilians can be pressed into service as well.
Several of the Black Tree - they match Foundry quite well!- Picts can also be used. In old Irish myths naked warriors are often mentioned, so perhaps with a little ingenuity several of the naked or semi- naked Picts, Celts and Germans can be used as well.
What I would like to do is use some of the Aventine Hill Tribe (Volscans) helmets to portray a slightly later, more advanced Bronze age 'clan'. It might sound as sacrilege cannibalizing a gorgeous Aventine figure but I can't think of another source.
That said an early Italic range would be wonderful!
-
Am looking forward to seeing the battle boards...
Would they be posted somewhere here?
http://elmswargames.webs.com/
-
They will be on the East Leeds web site. Let me check if they are up yet and let you know.
-
I'd like to download those battle boards (plural?) myself. I don't play Saga, but this could get me started.
-
I'll definitely grab a set of these boards :D
-
Chased will confirm once on guys.
-
OK it seems that as the only person with access to our club website has left I cant get the files uploaded. Is there anywhere on here or somewhere similar that I can put them so you guys have access?
-
You could scan them or convert them to jpegs then post them up as pics like normal maybe.
-

I assume someone has files on a computer for the battleboards. www.dropbox.com is a file sharing site. You could create an account, upload the files and then share the link.

Hey, there!
First, as someone who has made his own two mods for Saga already
( Saga with a Fantasy setting: www.a-fantastic-saga.com
and Saga in Westeros: https://www.docdroid.net/Cyde5iq/a-saga-of-ice-fire-2.pdf.html# )
I want to tell you that you did a great job on that Battleboard!
And then I could offer you some help, see that second link up there?
I hosted my file via docdroid. A German filehosting website. Very uncomplicated.
https://www.docdroid.net/?lang=en
If you save the Battleboard as PDF or any other document file format you can just upload it there and get a link and then you can go post that link anywhere and people will be able to read the document on docdroid or they can download it.
Hope that helps :D
-
Brilliant I will have a look at that and save the battle boards as PDF then let all here know.
Thank you.
-
Having not progressed this at all I am going to suggest that anyone wanting the battleboards PM me with their email and I will email them over once I have a list of interested parties.
If that becomes unmanageable (sure it wont) I will change tactics.
-
PM sent (a while ago)!
-
Really sorry guys, sending now, for some reason I didn't get a notification. If you don't get yours today please let me know.
-
OK I found 4 personal messages and sent details to each. If you have asked and not received please let me know. For some reason I have received no email notification of the PM's.
-
Just sent a PM :D
-
What a cool project!
I often wondered how to do northern European bronze age. You did it well!
-
Thanks Dr Viking, much appreciated, has been a really fun project. Still a lot to paint but on back burner now as I progress my Great Northern War project.
Lost egg just sent battle boards, rule amends/characters and handout over.
-
email received with the battleboards. :)
Many thanks for these.
i will try to test them at the end of this month with a friend who also plays saga and then i will give you a feedback.
-
fantastic stuff, I've always wanted to do a Battle of Crickley Hill (https://www.nationaltrust.org.uk/crickley-hill/features/ancient-battle-site-preserved-for-the-future) type game, but was disappointed by the lack of figures available. Most manufacturers seem to think that the Bronze Age only happened in the Med!
-
Thanks very much for the battleboards Roger! Highly appreciated!
