Hi all- Thomas from Skull and Crown here. I wanted to show my first casts for review of the 9 figures currently sculpted for my upcoming "Triumph of Death" 28mm line of models, based on Peter Breugel's painting and Hans Holbien's Totentanz woodcuts (with a bit of Durer thrown in for good measure). This is a line I've wanted to do for ages, a re-invisioning of the old minifigs VFW line back from the late 70's. These minis are sculpted by the talented and handsome Drew Williams, who is doing a smash up job- they are a real treat to paint! Triumph of Death
Here's a teaser of my halberdiers and an officer. I'll be doing a Kickstarter for these late February.

Cheers, looking forward to your feedback!

These are beautiful. I really like the pavises on the blog.

Everything that gives me old Minifigs vibes without actually looking like old Minifigs is a big win to start with.
I can imagine them very tightly packed on large unit bases.
Awesome stuff. :)

I must admit, I assumed they we're minifigs too initially.
I'd love to see these alongside some oldhammer/1980's sized skellies, as they are really rather nice, I can see me buying these

A size comparison would be great as I really like these
-
Yes, a comparison with an old VFWs would be informational :)
-
Old VFW are small 25s, not 28s.
I for one hope these are 28s! :)

Based on his blog post from Jan 4, they are 28mm. So looks like they're modern versions of the Minifigs.
I'm curious about the paint process you mentioned on your blog. What colors did you use?

Minifigs were my first love, so these are an "updated" homage to them. Size wise they are standard 28mm models, and fit well with Foundry and Citadel, as well as Warlord's landsknechts. I'm setting up a comparison size shot and collecting other companies to do so.

These are great, will be keeping an eye out for the Kickstarter!

These are lovely! I have many pictures of Death in his various guises from visits to churches around the Mediterranean, and these chaps would fit right into any crypt painting or mosaic!

:o Very good!

Aiteal- your wish is my command. Here's a couple of shots next to the only Minifig I own... and a GW skelly. For more scale references please head over to my blog.

I missed th se somehow! Always wanted to sculpt this range myself, glad I don't have to now!! :-*

Ah nuts. I was sworn off Kickstarter BUT I've been contemplating an Undead oldhammer project for a while and these would be perfect.
Well I'll take a look at the KS when it starts at least. No harm in looking!

Superb!

In my youth I spent many an hour staring at "The Triumph of Death" in an issue of National Geographic. It was an article about fleas.
This looks pretty interesting :)
-
This is a great project. Will it also include some characters/small scenes like the one in the picture or just rank and file troops?
-
I love these. I'll keep an eye on the KS. Whether I back it or not depends on the shipping but the guest guest skelibob is pretty hard to resist.

Any thought to some still in the tatters of Renaissance dress ?
-
Fantastic! (Boy, Valley of the Four Winds is a nostalgia hammer!)

Dillatante- Exactly! VoFW was the first army I played with back in day, before there was a Heritage, or a Ral Partha or a GW.
Time to pay homage to some old school.
Cheers
