Any suggestions? Particularly if anyone does plastics.
-
Plastic Soldier Company plastics for their 'Great War' game - 15mm though!
-
Metal in 25mm Old Glory.
-
I would pick 20 mm plastics!
Have a Look at plastics soldier review!
-
10mm Pendraken or Kallistra
-
Also 6mm H&R http://www.heroicsandros.co.uk/heroics/pdf/webcat.pdf

seconded.
1/72 scale figures are excellent, especially if you're looking for large numbers of them.
-
My late WW1 figures are all 20mm plastic, Hat, Revell, Emhar, Airfix. Dirt cheap and look very nice with vast ranges available.
-
I agree with MartinR; for cheap figures you can't beat 20 mm plastics - cheaper than even 15mm metal There are a wide range of armies covered, and its relatively easy to get scale equipment (Hat has particularly good coverage).
-
Sorry. Thanks for the replies. Should have said I'm looking for 28mm. You've got me wondering about 20mm now...
-
I did wonder.
I think you may need to decide on what you want from a WW1 game.A good rule of thumb would be the grander the game the smaller scale.
Also take a look at Tim's Great War Canadians thread he uses multiple 28mm manufacturers' and makes a fair comparison,as 28mm is pretty evenly priced across the board. It might be worth considering second hand figures is your on a tight budget regardless of scale.

Irregular Miniatures are fairly cheap at 90p/figure with bargain packs at £18 for 24 figures. Not the best sculpts but they are okay.
-
As the Armchair General stated, Irregular are the cheapest. But as the adage goes - you get what you pay for.
What are you looking for? A squad or two for skirmishing? Or hundreds to pour across No Man's Land en masse? If the former, I'd say spring for some nicer figures. If the latter, Irregular will get the job done.
As Mark said I have British figures from every manufacturer that makes then in 28mm. I just have the Irregular figures to do an I'll be posting some comparison pictures shortly (like in the next week or so) - stay tuned.
If you dig through the threads I did a comparison of all the Great War machine-guns a while back (sans Irregular).

I'm looking for smaller quantities to use in VBCW. Thanks for the replies. I think I'm going to have to part with some cash. There are some lovely minis out there (but as you said you get what you pay for).

You might want to consider having a look at Gripping Beast/Woodbine Design. They come with separate heads - so if you wanted a less-than-uniform look for some veterans hastily called up to defend the King it would be easy to do with a mix of different headgear.
