Title: Some modern Russians
Post by: just28mm on 06 February 2017, 11:06:27 PM: In many modern conflicts soldiers changed into "civilian contractors" or even "tourists"... so I bought some Russians from Empress /really nice minis/ and started painting them. Guys are wearing gorka suits and regular body armor. More to come.

Yup, these would fit into eastern european conflicts.. and should be usable for many sides.

Absolutely true on the appreciation front. I'm pretty sure that they would work for both sides as well as the armor and helmets are generic enough that they don't stand out too much as Russian only. Are they Spetsnaz? Are they Azov? Great versatility with these guys, I may have to steal your idea when I eventually get around to the Ukraine conflict, or even Poland or wherever.

"Great versatility with these guys.." yup they can see action from Caucasus to northern Scandinavia.

Paints: usually from vallejo model color range
primer: black vallejo
washes: manstein shade (thinned vallejo black wash for FOW range) and GW gryphone sepia - both used many times, usually on the same areas.

gorka:
brown parts: us olive drab-->english uniform --> some washes --> drybrushing with green brown
beige parts: german camo beige-->washes--> gc beige again and drybrushing with green ochre

vests: retractive green->wash-> retractive green again --> highlights with russian uniform
camo spots made with FOW splinter green and red leather

backpacks ammo pouches and netting made with greens, khakis and browns i bought for my blitzkrieg germans :)
