Thinking about getting back into wierd war, having done both scales before but sold them on, what do you think? I love graven miniatures figures and they have more of an occult feel which I love, or 28mm as there's more ranges available?
-
Modelling or gaming?
-
I also did both, but sold my 28mm as 40mm is just so damn nice :)
Also Jim Bowen was my favorite sculptor :'(
There's a lot of 0 gauge figures which fit in with 40mm, I'm currently re-painting my 40mm in a toy-soldier style.
-
I also like Graven Image but the company isn't around anymore.
Someone else picked up the line but do not make all the figures from the line
anymore. A shame as I was getting ready to buy some.
-
Yeah timeline do them, I must admit I really loved the Jim Bowen stuff, great guy too, I might just do some and see how I get on again
-
Even though the majority (99%) of my stuff is in 28mm, I have a fair few 40mm for when my eyes really cannot tolerate 28's any more.
And the larger scale is much more forgiving with the larger areas to try things that I would not dare in 28.
And Hellboy is around in 40mm too, which is a great bonus!
;)

Redzed, I would be interested in how those figures turnout painted in a toy soldier style! Gloss?
-
Gloss?
oh yes :D
I'll get some pix at the weekend.
-
My only worry regarding 40mm is are there enough different sculpts/poses available to have a platoon level game (30+ minis)? (I can see that a smaller skirmish game of 10 or so a side would be possible.)
-
Red looking forward to seeing them!!
As for figure poses I think with 40mm you can have smaller scale skirmishes, but graven do have quite a number of different figures, I think that's where I'm headed, looking over my old pics today on the yahoo site, can't believe I sold them! Although I think I would gave repainted them!!

some are just one coat and glossed, some are blacklined and some are two shades and glossed.

Defo going to go with 40mm now I've seen these and looked thru my old pics
-
I didn't know that there were so many standard infantry models in the old GI range, they look great.
-
Great work Red. :)
-
Just wanted to jump back in and say I was wrong.
Timeline Miniatures do carry all the old Graven Image Gotterdamerung
figures. Just bought myself a bunch of them.
-
So did I :)
-
I love the Jim Bowen 40mm stuff and am slowly rebuilding up the collection I flogged off years ago. I had the Hellboy stuff too.
I like the Toy soldier look very interesting.
-
Those look awesome!!! Look like the old toy soldiers from back in the day!!!
-
So what do we think would be a suitable vehicle scale for 40mm? Would 1/48 be to small?

Different an very cool.

Mathematically a six foot tall person at 1/48 is 37.5mm to the top of the head, 1/43 is 42mm to the top of the head (based on model railway scaling 7mm to the foot).
Sculpturally of course this is a different matter, hence the varied vehicle scales used with 28mm figures.
There are few 1/43 scale models, Gramodels do a Cromwell (and a Whippet) and I heard that Pete Waterman (of disposable pop music fame) had something to go on a railway flat wagon.

The gloss coated miniatures look good, they remind me of old school Britains. Thanks for posting the images.

I always use 1:32 Forces of Valor and Universal Soldier pre-painted diecast - they are the ones used in many of my photos - once you base a 40mm figures they are about the right size and heft for Jim's figures (1:43 vehicles just wouldn't support one of Jim's figures squeezing out of a hatch)

I did wonder about those sets.
