Title: 6mm & 10mm Manufacturers
Post by: cromojaro on 10 February 2017, 10:49:40 AM
Could you give me the best WW2 manufacturers in 6mm or 10mm?

"....best...."  is very subjective.

In terms of detail per figure GHQ without a doubt, but that detail comes at the cost of being oversized with overscale details and very very hefty price premium.

In terms of cost, probably Irregular, but they are pretty poor sculpts with indeterminate detail and very scruffy looking, but they are cheap and look OK when well painted.

As a compromise of detail and cost then Heroics & Ros (my personal preference)

If you are looking at skirmish or small encounter games then go with GHQ, if you want to field divisions for entire battles then go with H&R.

10mm.....no idea.

Thanks. I'll use for Sam Mustafa's Rommel Game.

For 10mm I recommend Pendraken.  They have a very wide range of WW2 soldiers and vehicles.  Quality and Price are very good.

Nice.
In Sam's words:
Rommel "..is operational in scale.  You command entire divisions, corps, and even armies.  It's about force management, not the relative armor penetration of an 88 versus a 17-pdr.  ....... I've always wanted to do a "big-scale" WW2 game, and Rommel is going to be it."

To game full WW2 operations with miniatures it will need to be around the "Assault Gun"/"Megablitz" game scale so bases as battalions, and given the promise that it will be usable with 15mm and 20mm figures probably not many figures per base. Would make a mid war German Panzer Division about 20 bases strong, say 15/16 vehicle/gun bases and 4/5 bases of infantry. In 6mm maybe 2 or 3 figures per base for effect and you have a need for around 50 vehicles/guns and about same number of infantry figures. (Assuming you only collect one minimum force for a game)

GHQ around £2 per vehicle or H&R around 60p per vehicle........  :-X

I'd go for Pendraken - well, to be accurate, I went that way. Good and varied figures, realistic prices, and they're a decent company to work with.

I agree that Pendraken is best for 10mm had quite a few of their German tanks nice price and detail...

GHQ look fantastic but for me the price puts me off them.... Irregular not my cup of tea...

H&R are what I have purchased in the past when I was doing 6mm scale armour. Great minis.

LGW

I went with 10mm when choosing between 6,10 and 15mm - mainly because the infantry are big enough to see, yet the tanks aren't giant.

For 10mm manufacturers Pendraken are great, big range of figures. I also like Pithead particularly for their vehicles, which have a good bit more detail than some of the older Pendraken stuff - but Pendraken are adding lots of new stuff.

Minifigs are an option, but their stuff tends to be a bit basic around wheels and tracks, and really a bit hard work to put together.

There are also various Japanese plastic tanks, notionally in 1/144, these are good for adding late war German kit cheaply. They aren't so good for other stuff.

Thanks for your responses. I'll try with Heroic & Ros. My local shop only has stock of H &R and Skytrex
