Title: Automaton Empress, New Bronze Jenkins Automaton!
Post by: Governor General on 22 February 2017, 03:17:26 PM
The Automaton Empress!
The mini is from WestWind, part of their OOP Rippers the Horror Wars line. I think the game involved Monster Hunters outfitting themselves with magic items to combat horrors but if they lose control the hunters turn bad. The mini is a 25mm. I've painted her as a Victorian Science Fiction Character who has an amazing ability to build, repair and convert other people's mechanicals to her own ends. The 3rd pic shows her with one of her subjects. I recently acquired a bunch of MageKnight miniatures so there some metal golems soon to join the Empress, court.

The Automaton Empress' pages, Deimos & Phobos. The figs are MageKnight Scout Automatons.I rebased and repainted them. Several people on the site advised freezing them, it seems to make the glue holding the mini to the base brittle.

New Large Automaton! A Mageknight Steam Golem. It was originally a silvery grey with some brass highlights and bright yellow stripes. I've mainly painted my automatons in "bare" metal but I looked at some pics of  steam tractor engines and went with a green paint job. The sword arm is pretty fearsome and I decided the other arm was a steam pressure cannon.

Love the color scheme!

Might have suggested altering the pose a bit, though. Whether blocking up or shaving the feet, or hot water warping the vinyl, I can't help shaking a certain vision of the beast.

I agree the pose is unfortunate. Apparently the MageKnight sculptors thought that automatons were always straining to relieve themselves.

Not all the Empress' servitors are squat and clunky. This one represents the artistic sensibilities of the Belle Epoque. The mini is a MageKnight Battle Queen rebased and repainted. The view from the back shows some of the clock work that powers the automaton. This fig's sword broke off but I'm leaving the hand empty in case I find something in a bits box that makes a cool steampunk weapon.

Just when I think I have all the MK that were...  lol

'Nightmares are made of this...'

'a cool steampunk weapon' might be an electric prod; I know she's clockwork, but...

Bronze Jenkins! The fig is a repainted and rebased MageKnight Golem Familiar part of a group sent to me from Doug,The Beast. Originally it was a greeny brown plastic with some orange highlights.  I thought it was Foxbot but as I was painting it I realised it was more rodentia, so Bronze Jenkins. Brown Jenkins was the rat like familiar in Lovecraft's story, Dreams in the Witch House. So the Jenkins is an intricate clockwork automaton equally adept at intelligence gathering and assassination.

Excellent!

Even allowing for the fact he's on 'pads', he's larger to the Empress than I thought. Definitely the MK small clockwork.

Does seem a nimble thing, no?
