Title: Bloodbeards Sci-Fi Blog (Deadzone, Warpath)
Post by: Bloodbeard on 27 February 2017, 09:59:30 PM
Hi all. Welcome to my Sci-Fi blog. I already have two blogs running on Lead Adventure. One for my Frostgrave/Dungeon Saga/Heroquest project (http://leadadventureforum.com/index.php?topic=87586.0) and one for my Post Apocalyptic stuff (The Walking Dead and Devil's Run) (http://leadadventureforum.com/index.php?topic=94185.0).

Deadzone
I love the light hearted fluff and stories in the Warpath Universe by Mantic. Grimdark is fine and all (love the old 40k setting and Necromunda). But Warpath Universe seem to have more room for my beloved Firefly etc.

Part of my February Paint Pledge was to paint up all my currently done Rebs for Deadzone.

Done painting, varnishing and weathering them today, just in time. This is some lovely models, they have so much character. Very little conversion work done here.

I've hotwater changed the pose on the human commander and the sphyr (shark guy) loader. I've added a helmet head from dreadball extreme to a grogan (ogre big gun guys).

I lost the tail for the Teraton shock trooper (armored turtles), so gave him one from the Plague Teraton.

I've painted up the suitable mercs in the same colour scheme.

Base coated blue, red spot colour, yellow/black stripes on all minis.

Bases are made with a 50:50 mix of play dough and miliput. Used the Greenstuff World factory rollpin, clock gears, jewelry chain and plastic tube.

These guys still need two striders (walker battle suits), a converted dreadball mvp Kraaw (then green, white winged guy), two Yndij (the lion monkeys. Dreadball mutant body, Frostgrave gnoll heads) and all the upcoming Star Saga Rebs (one of the expansions, I ordered it on kickstarter).

The entire 21 man, alien, woman, robot, drone - team!

Teratons. The small ones are the males, the big ones are female. Teleporting space turtles, size xxl.

365 days - 365 models challenge
Made a personal challenge to paint at least 365 models this year. In order to make my piles of unpainted miniatures less big. I'm a sucky photographer, so the models obviously look better in real life. I've managed to find that sweet spot, where I'm painting as quickly as possible, while not hating my result.

Currently this is where I'm at in 2017 - so I'm a bit ahead. And I want to continue doing that.

January (31 days): 25 TWD Survivors, 5 TWD cars, 4 barricades, 1 badge = 35 (+4)

February (28 days): 2 TWD barricades, 1 dumbster, 2 mailboxes, 11 loot counters, 6 tents, 1 campfire, 1 tank, 21 deadzone rebs = 45 (+17)

Nice to see some Deadzone/Warpath love, I wish Mantic would focus more and flesh out their IP's instead of constantly flitting from Kickstarter to Kickstarter.

Nice! Love the Rebs and your colours are ace.

Thank you Malebolgia. I'm very pleased with the colour scheme on them. They can look as both freedom fighters and terrorists.

Nice to see some Deadzone/Warpath love, I wish Mantic would focus more and flesh out their IP's instead of constantly flitting from Kickstarter to Kickstarter.
I've think that's excatly what they done with the Warpath Universe. Combining Deadzone, Warpath, Dreadball and Star Saga. It's getting nice and fluffy. ... I don't know anything about Kings of War - or if it has any setting at all. I played some Dungeon Saga - and I just imagine it as Hero Quest as I know nothing of Mantica.

Plague for Deadzone - and a new blog
I've run multible different plogs on multible foums over the years. And I've recently decided to try an make a single one. To collect my hobby work, my gamification in school projects, tutorials etc into one place. So for some high res, detail shots, thought on the models and so on - check out the page I made for the plague. http://bloodbeard.blogspot.dk/p/warpath-universe-plague.html

And if you feel like it, jump over and give my (very empty) facebook page a like. I'll be putting up some tutorials and the like there as well. https://www.facebook.com/BloodbeardsGarage/ (https://www.facebook.com/BloodbeardsGarage/)

Well that's good. It's the whole point of sharing stuff, sharing inspiration!

Finished Shipping Container
Finished a shipping container I started a long time ago. Looks pretty good. It's a pretty easy build and cheap (near free). I've written up a tutorial on my off site blog: Container Tutorial (http://bloodbeard.blogspot.dk/2017/03/tutorial-shipping-container.html)

More pictures etc. on the blog.

Sci-fi bases
Also wrote a small tutorial on how I'm making my sci-fi bases.
See it here. (http://bloodbeard.blogspot.dk/2017/03/tutorial-sci-fi-bases.html)

Facebook page
Blogging is all fun and games for me. It's a way to collect and describe my hobbywork. I've made a facebook page for it. Feel free to throw it a like: Bloodbeards Garage (https://www.facebook.com/BloodbeardsGarage)

Deadzone is a great little game. And your painting is very nice.

Thank you man. My painting is really low key. Bse coat, 1 layer of paint, quick shade. Easy, fast, but it looks better than plastic. And it lets me put a lot of painted models out.

Deadzone Marauders
Been pledging 20 Marauders for this month. Done a bit of conversions to four models, to get more options. I love the modern army style of the Mantic orcs.

List of bits, more pictures and what Ive done in my blogspot here LINK (http://bloodbeard.blogspot.dk/2017/04/deadzone-marauders-wip-and-more-sci-fi.html).

More bases
Still lots of scfi models to do, so made more miliput/playdoh bases. Tutorial LINK here (http://bloodbeard.blogspot.dk/2017/03/tutorial-sci-fi-bases.html).

Industrial Crane£
My first build for Deadzone terrain. Bought a 25£ terrain set (with 22 x 3'' tiles). I only used 5 tiles for this and sprue. Wrote a tutorial for the  blog LINK here (http://bloodbeard.blogspot.dk/2017/04/tutorial-industrial-crane.html).
Lots of photos and WIPs in the blog.

Thanks
Thank for looking!

Facebook page
It's all fun and games for me, but the blog also serves the purpose for sharing my 'gamification' projects. Teaching with boardgames in public elemtary school.

So any like to the blog facebook page is much appriciated - it really is! As more likes is more 'power' for when I push project ideas in a sometimes heavy system that is public education.

Dang, that Sprue crane is a thing of genious.  It's like the repetitiveness of the round injection points (usually an eyesore) reaches a critical mass and suddently it doesn't look like sprue anymore, it looks like a deliberate aesthetic choice. Really well done.

Can you share more about the insulating foam sheets you used on the container that has the great ridged pattern. I'm not familiar with that material, but it looks great!

Thank you very much Eilif and James. I made a mistake on the link above. Here's a link to the tutoral for the crane, and a lot more detail shots off it. Industrial Crane page link (http://bloodbeard.blogspot.dk/2017/04/tutorial-industrial-crane.html)

I've delibrately chosen the pieces of sprue with as many injection mold dots on them as possible. I figure it looks a bit like giant bolts or nuts. Most importantly (with cutting the sprue uneven) it helps bringing out the drybrush and gives wash a place to pool up.

Insulation Foam
It's for putting under floorboards. I installed a 'laminate floor' in my house, big 40 cm x 80 cm boards, really hard material. I got them with tile graphics on, looks really good. But you have to put noise dampening foam plates underneath. It's super cheap, comes in giant squares and different thickness (I use 3 mm).

It's cool as it's curroded on one side and flat on the other. You can draw in it with a pen, and it'll keep its form. So perfect for making walls, floor boards etc in models. I'll write a blog on it at some point. Here I've used it for a landing platform (along with a lot of sprue).

Deadzone Marauders
My May month paint pledge was painting all my Marauders for Deadzone. I've just finished them in time.

As always, there more photos in the blog. There's also a lot text, conversion WIPs etc over here: Bloodbeard's Garage (http://bloodbeard.blogspot.dk/p/warpath-universe-maruaders.html)

I love the style on these orcs. The modern military look is super cool. Mantic will at some point redoo them and make a plastic sprue, I hope the keep this style.

Very Cool.
Deadzone never took off in our group (though we pledged for the first KS).  With Shadow War Launching, I think there's some good possibilities for crossover of Deadzone/Warpath minis making their way into Shadow War. Especially seeing that some Deadzone deals seem to cover most of the options for Shadow War factions for a much lower cost.

I haven't played anything 40k since my early teens. But I think I'll be getting the updated Shadow War rulebook when it comes out, I've no need for the core box game. It's mostly to get the nice book. Necromunda Community Edition is superior in it's campaign system.

You should try out the 2nd edition of Deadzone, just go with some proxy miniatures. The new system is so much easier, faster and better than the first. And the rulebook is no longer a mess.

Very nice!

I really like version 2 as well. I like how fast the games are, fit my free time. And it lets you play around with a lot of different scenarios and teams in an afternoon worth of gaming.

Ogre Mercenary
really like this Ogre mercenary model for Deadzone, there's something about him that reminds me of the Super Mutants from Fallout. I painted him up in the same colours as my Marauders, but without any GCPS insignia.

Unlike many of the other models this is Mantic distinct in its feel. So this one could fit into Necromunda as well without feeling like the wrong brand - if that's something you're into.

I haven't really been using mercenaries in games of Deadzone. But for Star Saga there'll be character cards for all the Deadzone Mercenaries, so they'll properly see some action there. He's also gonna serve some gangs in Scrappers.

Blog post here LINK (http://bloodbeard.blogspot.dk/2017/05/warpath-universe-ogre-mercenary.html). Tutorial on homemade base here LINK (http://bloodbeard.blogspot.dk/2017/03/tutorial-sci-fi-bases.html).

Homemade palettes
Wooden palettes are great little pieces of scatter terrain. I love doing multi purpose terrain and these will work for all my modern, post-apoc and sci-fi games.

One of the issues with a lot of scatter terrain, is that it'll fall over and get pushed around during games. Often just becoming an annoyance or getting ignored. And like most gamers I have lots of small scatter pieces. Gluing some barrels, crates and cannisters to a palette will prevent that and give the whole thing a bit more mass.

I've written a tutorial on how I made these. I toke me an hours work to make 12. Bet it'll be even faster the next time I make some.

Title: Warning Danger Signs
Post by: Bloodbeard on 11 May 2017, 10:28:03 AM
Made some danger and warning signs and printed them on adhessive sticker. Easy detail to add to industrial terrain, crates, barrels etc.

I've compiled the photos from the web into a combined document, working for 20mm - 28mm stuff.

See blog post, with download of the sheet here: LINK (http://bloodbeard.blogspot.dk/2017/05/printable-warning-and-danger-signs.html).

Started building this piece of terrain years ago, but didn't come around to finishing until now. Very happy with the result and it looks good next to my crane.

This was a cheap build, the bulk of it being done with sprue and insulation foam.

I've made a blog post over at the Garage with materials, tools, WIPs, thoughts and a lot more photos of the finished pieces. See it here:

Finished another industrial building for my scifi battlefields, be it the Underhive, a Deadzone or Post-Apoc Wasteland.

Another cheap build using toys and sprue to get some extra mass.

There's some thought on the build, the pieces used, WIPs shots and so on over at the blog:

But otherwise you can just enjoy the pictures:

Title: Deadzone / Warpath Asterians by Bloodbeard
Post by: Bloodbeard on 11 June 2017, 01:27:30 PM

Asterians
Space Elves for Deadzone/Warpath. I'm gonna use these for a lot of other things as well. Splitting these up would bring multible different teams to Scrappers for example.

I've written a lot more about the models and stuff done in the blogger: http://bloodbeard.blogspot.dk/p/blog-page_10.html

But here's some pictures of the models. There's even more in the blog as well.

Title: Bloodbeard's Deadzone Enforcers
Post by: Bloodbeard on 01 August 2017, 06:44:08 PM
Deadzone Enforcers!
I've done some updates (and a lot more models) for my Enforcer strike team for Deadzone. Very nice models to work with. I call the strike team Niflheim.

As always there's a lot of words and more photos at my Blogger:

There's some awesome stuff here. I love your sci fi bases, definitely going to check out those rolling pins. You must nearly have every deadzone faction painted by now!

I've really digged that model since first I saw it. Was about to convert an Enforcer medic, when I decided this was cooler.

Thank you. I have all factions except Vermyn and GCPS painted up. It's a wonderful little game and it's nice to do a lot of different miniatures.

Vermyn has a lot of models coming from Star Saga. So I won't paint those before I get that set - or at least know what weapons are in it. Dont want dublicates.

And GCPS still need the official list to come out of beta, before I'm gonna touch those. I have the models for it.

Still have a lot of enforcers and forge father options to  build, along with some more hero models. Chipping a bit away every month. Thanks for looking.
