Willing to add some "dimensional portals" to my scenery collection, so I'm looking for suggestions.
The first one that comes to mind is the quite pricey Baleful Realmgate from GW (albeit there are two of them in the box, and they're pretty big models).
Otherwise, the Doorways into Darkness box from Shadows of Brimstone line contains four mythos looking ones for a nicer price (along with 4 mine elements, too).
But I'm pretty sure lots of manufacturers offer this kind of scenic element. Idelly, I'll be looking something half-way the Baleful Realmgate and the Brimstone ones, size-wise. Say twice a human in height.
Any material will be ok: resin, mdf, etc. I would prefer EU-based manufacturers, though.

If you can get some clear plastic, you can pretty much use hot glue to create swirls or whatever pattern you want for the portal itself. Hit the piece with a very light wash from a more craft store metallic paint followed by a layer of gloss. Then use other things to build the portal around it...
Or you could mount it as just the portal and do something kind of like sliders by mounting it on a base.

Last time i read a tread on this, what seemed like a good suggestion, was to look at plastic bangles, glue to base and stick a picture of the cosmos or some such to the back.

I've also seen textured acrylic panels used to good effect for this (and water effects). They are designed to put over bathroom windows or shower stalls to give some privacy. You can also ink them for other colors.

That acrilic looks very nice! Will look for it, thanks.
In the meantime, I've found these TTCombat "riftgates".
They comes in four different "themes". Compared to GW ones they're a tad smaller, but they're very good quality for the price.

Also found a small review:

(note that is possible to assemble the arch and the base, keeping them separate for painting, then slide the acrylic just before final assembling).

Did an old school overhead projector acetate piece for my Antares portal. I was pretty happy with it (top right of photo):

Very nice (but very sci-fi looking) :)

How about an aquarium arch? You could even construct a removable panel for when the portal is on or off.
