Title: British Bulldog VSF tank
Post by: Skrapwelder on March 01, 2009, 02:09:09 AM
Bulldog is the working name for this project. A steam tank for my British forces to defend the homeland from barbarian predation.

I started with a West Wind Battle Master APC from the Secrets of the Third Riech collection.

First a main gun. That's the gunner's periscope sticking up on top.

A quick firing half pounder in a side sponson and a smokestack.
Next up, the sponson for the left side and the coal tender.

Very nifty.  The only think I don't like is how that forward gun turret is slanted back.  Makes it look a little slap-dash to my way of thinking.

Very nice.  I am looking forward to seeing it when complete.

You're spot on there, Mancha. I didn't see it when I was putting it together. Once its flat on the ground its very noticeable. Took it off and did a little reshaping and it looks better. Thanks.

Is this going to be commercially available or just a one-off for your own use?

I can see it being very popular if released - especially for Quar etc  :)

i'd imagine that Westwind might be a little upset if he were to start selling one of their tanks, with a few bits stuck on it.... ;)

Nice conversion though.

Very nice and thanks for pointing this out to me: I didn't know Westwind had tracked vehicles in their SOTR range.  I would like to build a fictional inter-war tank for 3ECW and this looks like a good base to start from.  Could you please give the dimensions of the WW model?

Thank you,

Rudi

Very nifty. Where's the smokestack from?

Thanks everyone, I'll have more pics as progress continues.

Rudi, the model is about 4.5 inches long, 2.25 inches wide and 1.75 inches high.

The smokestack is leftover from a Wild Wild West movie toy called the Derailleur.

They come up on E-bay from time to time. Got mine for a couple of quid. Saw one at a car boot sale recently but somone was in the process of buying it. Hows that for bad timing!

Nice work Skrapwelder, looking forward to seeing it painted up

Got a bit more done this morning.

On Mancha's recommendation I straightened out the front sponson, as well as finishing the left sponson.

Some running lamps and a look at the top hatches. The main hatch needs some work as I'm not happy with it as it is.

The coal tender and semaphore mast. Most of the bits used in this come from a Games Workshop Dwarf Miners set. Lots of neat stuff in it.

Love the tank so far. The worrying thing is that its very close in concept to one I'm building, but using a different model as the base  ;)

Must think about buildng a semaphore on mine.

Back to adding more rivets to my tank ....
