For years I wanted to have a Vauban Fort for our League of Augsburg/WSS/SYW wars...
Two years before, I found the courage to construct one, having in mind my Siege of Vienna 1683 project (coming soon).
In this post I have the joy to share with you the Vauban gate I made.
I searched the web to find a picture of a well preserved gate to use it as a guideline.
The gate I liked most, was the Gate of Constantinople, from the fort of Belgrade.

Here, is my own interpretation:
-
Superb!
-
Thank you! There is much more :)
-
I made a hinged door from balsa.
Many hands of paint and drybrush to show the grain of the wood.
-
The back side is completely conjectural.
-
A shot of the interior
-
Some more details. The wall is stucco and photoshopped paper.
-
Excellent! I look forward to see more.

I thought this was real - stunning

Very impressive modelling.

Beautiful work. A gate simply crying out to be stormed! I am building a Vauban fortification and gateway for Sharp Practice, but it won't be as beautiful as your one. Jealous...

It was a sunny afternoon and I put the object between the camera lens and the window, so I let the sun rays pass through the door slits :)

Very nice work! The red brick details are a nice extra touch. The brickwork is from paper?

I wish it to be much better and I wonder how I can be of any help. Maybe if you see the whole work, I'm planning to post it in four parts.

Thank you! Paper it is... I take pictures of real, old, worn, weathered and grungy walls and bricks and then I use Photoshop to create an A4 paper sheet, trying not to let any pattern repetition (sometimes I do my own photo-weathering). In this way, I have enough material ready to cover any surface. This happens also for pavements, walls, etc. In addition, I cut smaller pieces of bricks to glue them here and there to give a more 3D appearence, finishing with some random splashes of colour.

The gate opens. A Saxon regiment marches out.

As in the course of time I have taken quite a lot of pictures, I promise to show you the fort in its full extent in the third part of my posts.

Beautiful! Is the redbrick paper sheeting? It looks amazing.
