Title: Basing for Pikemans Lament
Post by: mdauben on 07 March 2017, 06:18:46 PM
I'm curious.  As I'm waiting for my order of miniatures to arrive, are most people who are playing PL using the recommended 3-2-1 round basing from the rulebook?

If not, what system are you using?  Is it just because you already had P&S figures based for another rules set or do you prefer a different basing system for some reason?

Thanks!   ;)

I'm using whatever my figures are already based on, mostly 25mm round bases for infantry and 25x50mm for cavalry.

I had a chat with Martin at Warbases about making little sabot trays which take individual 20mm square and skirmish them up -- so I can use WECW based figures and also new ones and still have them compatible with (potentially) "The Kingdom is Ours".

I'm not sure the 3-2-1 basing is 'official'. Its far more of a suggestion to allow you to get a good compromise between single based and group based figures. Its a good idea, both from a practical point of view, and from how it looks.

I'm using my standard sabot basing with washers:

Six to a base for PL, or I can change to four to a base for DBR or other rule sets.

My ECW stuff is already based up for massed battles on 40mm square bases, with 4 infantry or 2 cavalry per base (or 2 dismounted dragoons plus standing horse), so I'm using those.
I'll either use markers for casualties or paint up a few spare single figures to make change.

I was thinking of doing something similar.  I've got loads of 25mm and 40mm round laser cut bases that I could use to individually base my infantry and cavalry.  Then I'd just need some movement trays in various sized to group them up.

As I am using already based figures they are based singly and in pairs on 20x20 and 20x40 bases but for the purpose of the poll I chose singly on square bases.
