Title: ViDe: LMG question
Post by: dflament on 08 March 2017, 08:25:25 AM
Just a quick question before my first game of ViDe:

When looking at the panzergrenadier list, I noticed that a squad consists of 2 sections each having a grenadier with a LMG. Does it need a dedicated loader (one of the rifle grenadiers from the section in base contact to feed the LMG)?

If I recall correctly a belt-fed LMG had a dedicated loader but can't find it anywhere in the rules...

Just in case you are playing before Agis answers. The way I interpreted and play it is that though the assistance is in the team, he is not needed for the weapon to fire, so he can fire his own weapon.. rifle maybe..

The key thing with the LMG and similar weapons is the set up trait.. which means that the unit has to conduct a set up action for you to be able to add the number after the "set up/" trait to the damage dice rolled...

That is at least how I interpret it and play it... might be good until you get the official answer, which I'm sure will show up over the next days...

cheers

Hi folks!

1st - thanks seldom for already answering a bit of it.

ViDe seperates the LMG and the HMG.
The squad based MG-42 is of course the same weapon as the HMG, the usage is different.
As always in ViDe a bit of abstraction is called for.

MG-42 LMG 3 48” 2xD6+1 Set Up/3, Suppression
Used like this:

Properly set up with tripod and all you get the HMG weapon team:
MG-42 HMG 3 48” 2xD6+1 Set Up/4, Suppression
Support Teams have additional rules that reflect loaders etc. Same weapon but slightly different once set up properly.
