Title: Convention Game: Ramree Island, 1945
Post by: ecwcaptain on 10 March 2017, 04:36:13 PM
I thought I'd pass this along (I guess it fits here the best).

This is the game I am running at the Cold Wars convention (17-19 March) in Lancaster, PA (USA) - www.coldwars.org - as the Wargames Illustrated Showcase Game. The game will be part of the WI booth in the Vendor Hall.

Now, while this can easily be considered "urban legend," it was something (IMO) that just had to be gamed. I looked on it as a "historical zombie game" of sorts.

All 8 players will play a group of 9 Japanese, trying to get off the other side of the table with the most surviving.

See the attached jpg of the game sign.

Enjoy!

The game will eventually appear in Wargames Illustrated, along with photos. I think the mangrove swamp game out nicely, after fretting over "getting it just right" for a few years (I came up with this weird game back in 2010, after seeing a diorama at a Toy Soldier Show that depicted the action). I've run six playtests, and all were a lot of fun, watching players compete against each other, and move crocs away from themselves and towards other players. Thus, a sort of competitive race game.
