A little something painted for myself for a change. I'd like to do more but no promises. More pics and some waffle over on my blog (http://stonecoldlead.blogspot.co.uk/2017/03/ultramarine-rtb01-beaky-marine.html?showComment=1489960204234#c2396198795761437314).

Always beautiful work.
-
Retro. Those were the days, long before GW earned the Evil Empire moniker.
-
I love the old Beakie marines. Maybe my favorite GW minis.
-
Oh dear scruffy lord in heaven that is gorgeous!!! What you can get out of an old plastic model is absolutely remarkable.
It's so damn clean!
-
Nice job! beakies were the best
-
Ditto the above - and the chips to the white line are just grand. Makes the Space Hulk tiles look so much nicer too. 8) 8) 8)
-
Nice. I think I may still have a couple of them left on the sprue (well my brother's) Great to see it on the old school spacehulk board too.
-
The old guy never looked soooo good! :-*
-
Beautiful work - hard to believe that this is one of the old RTB01 plastics built as-is! :-*
I wonder if anybody has tried to re-pose these and add some more sculpted details back (so an extra joint/crease in the foot, more upright position, re-doing the left arm so that's a bit more natural, etc)?

Thanks for the comments everyone. :)

They may not have had the EE title then but plenty of people seemed to dislike them or bitch about them even in the late 80's. Some people hated space marines from day one, or at least from the time when as it was put by someone in Games Master International magazine in the early 90's, they started wearing flares. lol

Good looking. Love the little details on the stripe and badge,as well
.
-
Lovely painting.
Beaky helmet was also known as the womble helmet in the UK. Older UK gamers will remember.

Yup, I've done that a few times actually. My last lot was when I built a Space Wolf army a few months back. I'm using my phone ATM, so I can't post pics, but there's stuff on my blog about them if your interested.
As I already commented on your blog Stone, be looks great! Eavy Metal eat your heart out :)
-
It's incredibly charming :-*
-
a very nice beaky one :-* :-*
-
Love the old figures and that is a seriously impressive paint job!
-
very nice they never looked that good in 1987....
-
Crazy what you are able to do with a simple fig like this. I'm in awe. :-*
-
Love it. Now paint some more!
-
Great work. The way I still picture marines even though that was before my time!
-

Got some base coat on a few more but can't promise anything. ;)
-
This is yet another reason why you're probably the best miniatures painter in the world. Outstandingly good.
-
Excellent, I had not noticed this before I started posting in this topic.

Somehow I managed to get another model done. This time a sergeant. Check out my blog (http://stonecoldlead.blogspot.co.uk/2017/04/ultramarine-rtb01-sergeant.html) for some waffle and extra pics.

Missed the thread first time around, brilliant work mate. Great inspiration too, I've got a ton of RT lead being gradually base coated...
-
Lovely work, especially with that head!
I think the bionic eye (being further out than a normal eye, and also pointing outwards as a little as well) is the hardest bit to rescue, but the gem effect is really good. Well done. :D
-
Another work from the master :-*
-
looks the part indeed
-
Very good.
-
:-* :-* :-* :-* So jealous...
-
Incredible work, especially considering the mini quality...
-
seriously awesome work! :-*
-
Cracking paintjob! You've made Ultramarines cool again! Back in the day Ultramarines were just marines and not boring squares...
-
Wow fantastic work, I must say!
You know what I really love about these old models is the simplicity.
No skullz, no unnecessary crap, nice open areas so you can do your own thing!
This is a lesson I wish the current mini-designers would learn, in most cases less is indeed less.
This in my mind makes up for the sometimes goofy poses, you get with the old RT stuff. But I really, really like them.
Keep up the good work
Glen
