Title: Source for Bulk Quantity 15 mm windows and doors?
Post by: FifteensAway on March 28, 2017, 02:57:42 PM
Okay, I'm - very, very slowly - building a scratch built old west town.  I need LOTS of windows and doors, literally hundreds.  Probably two or three window types for houses and shops and maybe two types of people doors and two types of freight doors.  I want 3D to attach rather than the paper terrain option.  Is there a source out there other than Grandt Line HO or similar?  Anyone in the 3D printing universe already doing this?

Or, if I scratch build a few what would be the best and most reliable (and affordable) way to mass cast them?

Thanks for your assistance.

Making a mold is dooable and not difficult.  You can go the all in one rout at Hobby Lobby with Alumite.

Same with Micromark.

A cheaper alternative for the silicone is from Michaels.

The problem with the michaels easy mold is that it is not pour-able it is a two part putty so casting in resin will require you to get the mold level.  Not a big deal but something to keep in mind.
Here is a pretty good primer for mould making.

It is a worthwhile read.  It seems more daunting if you have not done it before but it is not very hard.
Another option would be to talk to some of the laser cutting companies to see if they will do a production run for you.
Sorry I can't give you a good link for windows.
Hope that helps.
Snitchy sends.

I could cast them for you, probably cheaper than you'd expect and you wouldn't have to muck about casting them yourself. Drop me a PM.

cheers,
