I just found this interesting video about how to make silicone molds from 3D prints and then make a cold cast piece by using, for example, resin mixed with metal powder. The cool thing is that due to the iron content, you can let it rust or use a rust solution to quicken things up, and with some burnishing work afterwards, you get very realistic results withput having to paint anything.
It might be perfect for Post-apocalyptic terrain pieces, and you could even make molds from your existing resin scenery.

That looks great. Makes me want to design some robots!

I was much more interesting to actually see the iron powder in use. I was on the fence about trying it out before but this was cool. Thanks for sharing.
Snitchy sends.

That's what I meant. It makes me want to design robots so I can cast them and make them rusty.

I changed the title to better reflect what's interesting about this video.

Did anyone miss that? :?

Tiranties sculpture supplies have a good range of resin additives, Including marble and slate for stone casting.
Give them a ring and they'll happily tell you what to do.
(they also have a very lovely plaster terracotta iron mix that creates rusting ceramics.)

Another reason to contemplate a purchase.

I've made cold casts in the past with so much metal filler in them that I was able to copper plate them... Should also work with silver plating I imagine, Another idea worth investigating?
