We had a request from a customer yesterday for status rings for Pulp Alley.
I think they had seen the Status Rings we made recently for The Hobbit and Blood Bowl Games.
http://wargamesbuildings.co.uk/Templates (http://wargamesbuildings.co.uk/Templates)
We already have a couple that we use in our own games, 'Hidden' and 'Down'.
The rings are made from Perspex with an inside diameter of 25mm so that they can go around a figure base.
We could make from colored perspex, but I think clear might work best in case a character has a couple of status at the same time.
Suggestions for status rings include 'Impaired', 'Out of Ammo', 'Head Shot', 'Leg Injury', 'Body Wound', 'Arm Injury'.
I'm interested to hear what other status markers players would like, and any other feedback.

Cheers,
Chris

Chris - that looks great. Only suggestion i have is to do 1/4 circle so one figure could have 4 multiple effects without overlap/stack.
-
Good idea. Also maybe some variation in sizes to accommodate different basings?
-
Light wound, Serious wound, Lost 1 CI. All for Chain of Command. Can you have them ready by early-mid June when I visit? lol

Hi Chris
I like the idea, go figure...
My thoughts are for the special effects that can impact a character and can all too easily be forgotten.
I am not thinking we need health status or multiple combat skill use markers.
I just went through the fortune deck and found the following possible markers:
Dazed, no recovery, disarmed, reloading, last shot, distraction, stunned, disoriented. These in addition to the ones all ready listed in the first post. Again these are effects that are not seen all the time, but when they happen it would be nice to remind people of what is going on.
So maybe 14 different markers, and even if you do not want them on the figures on the board you could always place them on the characters card.
There also might be value in these:
Possibly different colour markers to be used to indicate who has a plot point. (5 colours for the typical five plot point games)
'non-drop' plot point marker.
Just food for thought and discussion.

We will crack on with status rings for Pulp Alley (and can do the requested ones for Chain of Command as well).
We have tested half and quarter circles, and although it sounds like a good idea, they are really fiddly and time consuming to place and move with the figure, which is why I thought 2mm clear rings would work best, then you can align them so you can read the one underneath it, although you'd be very unlucky to be suffering from more than a couple at a time.
I was not planning to do anything for multiple combats and wounds, as our current set of Pulp Alley tokens work very well for that.

What size bases do people use (other than 25mm round)?
-
Chris - i hadn't thought about the fiddly movement part, shows you what I know. As far as bases, i use US nickels which are a little over 21mm. I just like the size, thickness, and weight, plus dirt cheap.
-
My stuff is mounted on 22mm washers (roughly the size of the top part of a 25mm slot base)
However I play with others that use 25mm, so 25mm would be the best plan from my view point.
Actually some of my friends use 30, so really anything in the 25-30+ range I guess, heck just loop them on the figure if bases are too big...
-
I use Canadian pennies, nickels, and quarters, mostly, so I don't expect to be catered to directly. But as long as there's 2-3 sizes I'm sure I can work it out that they're close enough even if they don't fit *perfectly*.

Based on my recollection of our own games, I might suggest:
"Confused"
"Overconfident"
"Ambiguous"
"Blindly Resentful"
"Self-Pitying"
"Too much sake"
and
"Where the hell is my damned character card?"
You can probably think of more.

Ah yes, the old classics! lol
Chris, maybe a ring to identify who is carrying a Plot Point?

I make character cards and I just place the plot point on the card to keep track of this.

Thanks for your comments.
We are cracking on with this and should have rings available early next week, once we've recovered from Salute!
-
I'd even say just different colored rings to help you keep track of your own figures while playing, especially when there are a lot on the table - I can't tell you how many times I've seen players "lose" their figures on a table in a convention setting. I would have the ring be about half the size that is shown in the first example, no need for any text on it :)

We do something similar, however to avoid neck strain from always trying to look over to see who has what a disk might be nice.
It would act as a nice target for other players! :)

I've just made the Status Rings available on our website, sized for 22mm, 25mm, 32mm bases.
If you need something else, let me know and I'll see what I can do!

Very cool! Nice work. ;)

If you were looking at Status Rings for Chain of Command, I believe we would need;
Wounded - No activation this turn
Light Wound - 1 Activation rest of game
Now that I look at it, there are really only the 2 required but producing 8 of each on the sheet would be useful particularly for those who run Italians with a high number of Leaders. I will ask on the TFL forum and confirm.

Full rings? Like the old Bloodbowl skill rings? I'd go for half-rings to be placed in base contact. People use all kinds of bases, making full rings less usefull. And I find full rings fiddly to place around a base. But status effects which can be placed in contact with a base (like these: http://blotz.co.uk/images/B00-RT-316A.JPG) seem handier. But other than that, excellent idea!

No problem, we will do the same set of status as part rings this week.
