Title: [Kickstarter] The Drowned Earth
Post by: Jocke on 19 April 2017, 07:36:41 PM
Hello fellow Adventurers!

I will tell you about the Drowned Earth, which I believe is an awesome Pulp Setting, great fluff and a beautiful miniatures design.

Quote
The Drowned Earth is a tabletop miniatures game where brave heroes and villains risk the dangers of the wilds for glorious riches and ancient technology!

For hundreds of years nature reclaimed the earth, pre-historic monsters ruled the wilds, while the survivors of the cataclysm known as "The Event" struggled to survive.

Now a New Enlightenment has dawned, and the fragile glimmer of civilisation has begun to shine. Now the fight is on for who will control this precious knowledge.

Which side will you take?

Played on a 3ftx3ft table.
5 (or more) models a side.
Scenario based play.
Beautifully cast, multi-part metal miniatures.
The game is set in the land of Ulaya, a tropical world of flooded cities, overgrown ruins and terrifying predators.

Today also startet the first Kickstarter Event for this game.
Now it is the right time to back this KS, as a backer you´ll become involved in a narrative event to create, with the help of the backer community, a unique Adventurer for the Drowned Earth. At the end of the KS, every backer gets a copy of this Miniature.

So, join in on this awesome Adventure and get involved into the Drowned Earth Kickstarter.

Choose your Own Adventurer Part 1

So how does this work? Below is the first part of a story. At the end of the story are a number of questions which you may answer by following a link to a survey. The answers to the questions will determine the nature of the character, as well as what they will do next!

Each week we will post another episode until, at the end, we will have crafted a complete character (and have a drawing of them too, by the vey talented Paul Rigdon).

All backers who have pledged for one or more Starter Crews will get a copy of this model absolutely free, as thanks for your support! So, lets get started!

Really interesting game and Kickstarter, James Baldwin the creator has certainly done his utmost best to create a unique game and creative setting influenced by some great classics such The Lost World, Jurassic Park and more. Very professional approach with loads of input from the growing The Drowned Earth community and with an excellent background, miniatures and artwork! Also read that he's already working on more stretchgoals (think dinosaurs) and also regular retail releases to further support the game along with campaigns and competitions.

I got a chance to play this at Salute this year, and all I can say is - it is awesome.

The game was cinematic, tense and exciting. I felt like I was making interesting and difficult decisions at every turn, and the sense of player agency was strong. The dice mechanics are unusual, but I think they work really well - you roll two dice each test, one to pass, the other to 'nail it' - essentially critical hits. Doubles mean you 'feat', getting that action for free. It's pretty intuitive, I had picked it up after the first game.

The characters were beautifully sculpted, and played very differently with interesting abilities - the crazy flamethrower wielding crook felt very different to the agile bow wielding huntress, who both felt very different from the giant uplifted gorillas who smashed 7 shades out of each other in a wonderful fight. Uplifted animal races are cool and different, and the setting (a tropical water world) was unique and visually appealing.

I'll be backing this at KS for at least 3 factions (I find the 'town guard' faction a bit generic looking at the moment, hopefully some new factions will be unlocked), I took a few pics although they aren't the best - I was having too much fun playing to pause for long for photography!

A very cool looking game.
Went to the KS page like what I see.
My problem, I have way to many other periods to finish.
But, will think long and hard about it, still have three plus weeks to decide.

£16 for 2 Raptors... great deal and awesome for some lost World scenarios.
Join in on this Kickstarter, perhaps we can unlock more cool stretch goals.

Have you seen the other Dinosaurs who are unlocked? Dilosors and Oviraptors, awesome sculpts. Also a character who has mounted a Uttaraptor.

Last hours of the campaign, I upped my pledge to the all in level - I think £200 for the entire line so far is very good value. Any London gamers interested in playing once this lands, PM me!
