Terrific work on the scenic setting for both entries :-*
The cinematic versus the televisual.
Must say I love the sheer amount going on in Mike's entry, and with some wonderful scenic elements.
There again, Dr The Viking's entry captures that all purpose polystyrene-rocked Star Trek planet very well :)
-
Yes I believe that terrain would have beaten me even without the figures! ;D
-
What I'm not entirely sure of, is whether I'm supposed to be voting on just the quality of the painted miniatures or whether it's the whole thing - scenery and all?
Some people vote on the painting quality strictly, some vote on the overall quality and scene, some vote because they like the subject of one over the other. What criteria you are using to decide is up to you.
-
Yeah, you vote on what is put in front of you, using whatever criteria you choose. Though comments over the years have led me to believe that many LAFers would welcome them, there are no voting rules. You vote how you like. If you want to vote purely on the quality of the painted figures, that's your business. If you want to vote based on everything you can see, that's your business too. :)
My own voting system is simply to vote for whichever entry has the most red, because I like that colour. ;D
(Not really, but I might use it as a tie-breaker.)

In a way there's probably a potential for a set dressing competition without the requirement to paint new figures. lol

LPL is like the Eurovision song contest. A good song may help, but it's the overall entertainment value which ultimately wins.
(And maybe politics but let's not go into that. ::))

Thanks for the comments, folks. I knew as I was setting up the scene that I was possibly upstaging my sailors. I couldn't help myself, though! After I got the temples and vegetation all set up, I sat there and said, "Now, how cool would it be for my pygmy cannibals to be surrounding them and coming out of the vegetation...?" (You DID see them, right? lol) My apologies if my entry went over the top...
And Dr., I am a Star Trek fan since the first series...so I love your entry! :-*

Mike,
Love the photo.
May I ask who makes the sailors,
they look like Old Glory.
-
They are indeed Old Glory...thank you, sir!

Both Excellent entries!
Mike, that is one heck of a set up! Great figs, amazing setting, and that terrain is awesome. Kudos on this entry! I'm going to pay close attention to your foliage-filled group Mike, you've inspired me to kick it up a notch.
I agree about the star trek feel. I can almost hear the hum of the enterprise and the sound of the communicators beeping!
Thanks

*Nice* terrain, Mike!

Good point.
