Title: Gothic Horror Vampire Hunters
Post by: Cubs on April 29, 2017, 02:54:47 PM
Just vampires? No, she could be hunting just about anything. But anyhoo, this lady of fashion I call Isabella Cornetta is one of a small range of Gothic Horror stylie models that Annie at Bad Squiddo Games has bought from a veteran sculptor (Gary Morely) and now is scratching her head about, wondering when/how exactly to release them.

Lovely brushwork and lovely figure. :-*

She looks to be modelled on Kate Beckingsale from Van Helsing. I'd recognise the backside anywhere ;)

I've seen these in the flesh and they're lovely sculpts, made better with your painty awesomeness.
What's your schedule like, I'll need some bits painting soon too?

Full as an egg. I'm probably booked until the end of summer at least. I guess I need to put my prices up again!

Awesome miniatures - I hope they are released soon.

Annie ran a fantastic KS campaign for her 'Ghosts of Gaia' range. I would have no hesitation in backing any future KS campaign from Bad Squiddo.

Actually, I think this lass is a bit broader, but definitely healthy, as she'll need to be to face the forces of evil!

I'd like to see her in person, as well. I'd feel SO much safer.  lol

Squee!

Thanks all. I have a whole range of this stuff, a mixture of male, female and monsters! It will definitely be a KS, later in the year I think, got so much on the plate - exciting stuff!

I saw Cubster the other day and piled a load more on him, so I guess I could add to the pressure and say "Hey I'll get it started when I have the rest painted", muahahaha.

I'd like to add a bit more to the range too. It was originally the Vampire Slayers Club, a range which was never released, I bought it a while back but haven't had the funds to put it into production, so I guess a KS is perfect! It's got a lot of Gary Morely - bizarrely being the big "lady minis" person, it was actually the male figures which caught my eye, fantastic. All classic gothic horror. Think I'll have to get Phil on some gribblies, and maybe shout Gary for a few more characters, so there is some freshness.

Yeah, there's a few from that set, but not all. Plus I think a couple of models not shown there. I'm pleased to say that the one who looks like Peter Cushing's Van Helsing is included.

Nice looking figures, except the Dwarves.  Keep us updated as I'd certainly be interested in the KS.  Perhaps the original failed because it was Indiegogo?  IMHO KS is way better than Indiegogo with one caveat.  The promoter needs to flood the forums with info and not rely on people stumbling across their campaign using the KS search engine which, for some obscure reason, seems to throw up campaigns long past rather than what is current.

I'm super chuffed with the feedback, thanks! I've been sat on these for a while (it's weird how you almost need a kickstarter to afford to do a kickstarter). Cubbin is painting em all up, and I'm thinking around September for the launch. I'm going to try a longer build up than I have for Ghosts of Gaia. I'll have some fresh sculpts too so it's not just a MK2, hoping to get Mr Morely as well as my regular dude Alan Marsh. Any suggestions?

Mein Gott! It's the Drakul himself! We'll need a whole team of hunters if we're to stand a chance!

'Arch Fiend' Vampire - making crosses out of candlesticks or, God forbid, your poxy fingers ain't gonna help you with him! He's got you in his hypnotic gaze and you're a gonner ... unless you've got a mate who can blindside him while he's distracted.

Nil desperandum boyos, there's hope yet! Here come the forces of light to combat hell's minions.

'Professor of Occultism' Hunter - armed with a prodigious intellect, a lifetime of learning and a bag full of anti-vamp goodies (not to mention a wardrobe of stylish tweed), he's your best strategic asset when facing the undead.

But you know the Church isn't just going to let a bunch of amateurs take the lead with this Crusade.

'Vatican Operative' Hunter - whether you're taking on zombies, werewolves or vampires, a highly skilled agent armed with Holy Water and a kukri will always come in useful ... plus black leather and presumably plenty of talc (especially in hot weather).

He doesn't care if it's not strictly his fight just yet, he'll stick by his buddies and learn some valuable lessons to take back across the pond to combat the rise of nosferatu threatening the good ol' U.S. of A.

'Texan Adventurer' Hunter - a bowie knife hurts the dead as much as the living, and a Colt .45 is a very handy deterrent to deal with human and animal minions.

Funny you should mention it, Annie's looking for suggestions for additional characters to boost the range (specifically females). Obviously there's the literary 'Dracula' characters, but other Victorian subjects  in the Gothic Horror line - beasties and humans - are being considered I think.

My own suggestion was the Chinese 'Vampire Slayer' as seen battling Spike in a Buffy flashback.

Mina and Lucy - in both human and not so human forms...

Gorgeous female vampires, PLEASE!  :-* Including, of course, Le Fanu's Carmilla, Countess Dolingen of Gratz (from Bram Stoker's "DRACULA'S GUEST") and the 3 Brides of Dracula!

EDIT> Inspired by Coppola's 1992 movie, DRACULA both in "GIANT BAT" and "WEREWOLF IN LOVE" forms!  :D

Yes to all of these. Plus, if you're thinking of making a Chinese female vampire slayer like the one from Buffy can we also have not-versions of Angelus, Darla, Drusilla and Spike as they appeared in Victorian times.

If you could see your way to getting a close likeness of the Fang Four (Angelus, Darla, Drusilla and Spike) sculpted, I'm sure you'd make a lot of people very happy.  :D

Haha just caught up, Cubbin is an awesome PA.

My mind is scrambling about this, shall I do a Kickstarter, shall I release, when shall I do a KS.... etc etc.

I don't want to fall into the trap of Kickstartering everything, but from a purely business point of view, it seems the way to go. But I bloody love a good standard release. The sales of normal releases though compared to KS make it feel so dismal though, so I'm now hesitant. However I've just finished a big (big for me!) KS, and have a totally different one planned for the fall, so it's where to fit it in. Patience is not one of my qualities, I've had these figures for a while and I am just itching to get them released.

I've got masters of the whole set coming later in the week (the rest that I haven't sent to Cubbin yet) and I'll have a sit and stare at them for a bit and have a think.

If I release them as standard I think I'll do an "Anniestarter" while you're all hot for them. A pre order with something special thrown in perhaps, nothing fancy and use some of the leftover funds from the last KS to get them in production moulds. Sounds like I've already convinced myself.

You have to promise to buy them though! *folds arms*

Faced with an organised team of hunters, the vamps have taken to fraternising with dark scientists to manipulate their unnatural creations.

Bride of the Monster - rarely do you find a couple on their wedding day who were literally made for each other. She's fully prepared to lose her heart to her beau, since she's brought a spare. Just remember, if you are an uninvited guest at the union (especially a rowdy peasant type), try to stick to the gift list because unwanted farming implements are liable to be swiftly returned to you ... with great and extreme prejudice.

The crusade against darkness crosses all borders, from West to East. European hunters are swiftly learning their international brethren are also dedicated to the cause.

'Shinto Paladin' Hunter - she's five foot nothing of whirling steel, martial honour and thrice-blessed jade. Hell's servants better stay out of her way, unless they want to lose face ... along with the rest of the head.

Cheers!

I'll be doing some sort of pre order...thing... soon.

Anyone who's been following my social media accounts will already know - but one of my rescued guinea pigs has been super ill the last few weeks, and she's driven me pretty crazy! A MASSIVE vets bill which keeps going up (nearly at a grand now!) as well as round the clock care. She had a couple of operations and has been hand fed for... I don't even know anymore. Four weeks I think I have been hand feeding her day and night, every two hours. I have had very little actual sleep, so that combined with work pressure I am a bit of a wreck!

I'm sodding off to Sweden on the 27th for a week where I want nothing to do with work or guinea pigs (my partner is going to take over the care while I am away if she still needs it then). My funds are getting pretty dire so the plan is to do a small Anniestarter for these, which will run while I am away, and I will deal with it and the shipping when I am back, around a week later. That means I have money coming in! Also the caster and mouldmaker is already having his wicked way with them so that is one task out of my hands, yay.

"Too long didn't read" version without life story - VAMPIRES AND VAMPIRE HUNTERS SOON!

If we are tossing ideas out still. I would say a few female American Indian braves or a Wise women or two would be cool. And how about and American Native's who have been turned into one of the dreaded undead blood sucking vampires themselves?

I figured since they played a part, then they should at least to the option to play all sides. Not to get historical, but often times the military would use turned members of different tribes to when the wars. Seems totally reasonable that the forced of undeath would use turned braves to.

What an eejit! I mucked up and it ends tonight, doh! I'm still promoting it at Partizan tomorrow so I knocked up a late backers thing, it's only for tomorrow though then it disappears again.

http://badsquiddogames.com/shop#!/My-Last-Sunrise-SUNDAY-BACKERS/c/24522801/offset=0&sort=addedTimeDesc

it's for anyone that finds this on Sunday and wonders why they can't back, they will be able to via there.

If you have backed, no worry, ignore all this! D

Put an update here with some more information, all brief as I am on the way to Partizan, good job I spotted it!

This one isn't a Bad Squiddo model, he's a new release for Great Escape Games' 'Curse of Dead Man's Hand'. Known only as 'The Count' he's both a swanky dresser and a guaranteed lady killer.

I finished up the brides earlier today.  I feel I let the models down in this case.  My colour choices could have been better.  If I did it over again I would have understated the contrasts in the robe and stayed with a blue to white tone for the flesh.

They should double up nicely as Witches for Strange Aeons too.
Having three makes a Coven, right?

Thanks to everyone for the kind words on brides.  They would work for a coven for sure.  There is a lot of significance to threes of mythical women.  The fates, furies/gorgons, witches.  I figured the Hammer brides were an illusion to these ancestral mothers.  I was shooting for a Roman classical feel and the flesh is as much showing the sting of decay as the leathery hides of older monsters.

BUT... the right hand could be set in a slightly different angle IMHO, to align the weight of the mallet to the bones of the forearm in a more anatomically-correct way...  (in this case, simply twisting the mallet's head a bit will do).  ;)

AND, again IMHO,  this splendid series of miniatures could be even better with more female hunters... and female vampires as well! ;D

Dracula arrived the other day and I couldn't put him down.  The figure himself is pretty much done apart from sealing and a little gore but the base is still rough.  I had so much fun with him I wanted to share right away.

Thanks for the kind words (on all the models I've posted on the thread so far).  Really awesome range of figures.  Next time I place an order I want to pick up Sandor and maybe Edward.  It's hard to say though visiting BS has the potential to eat more of my hobby budget if I'm not careful (I just saw the Deraj figures who would make fine Cossacks or Carpathians and I will need more of the Soviets to bolster my Bolt Action forces :D .  I still have to finish up my remaining hunters which reminds me I'd like Clara and Margaret.  Stop making nice stuff :P .  Sandor is the closest I've been able to find to Oliver Reed as the wolf man;  Everybody else make them with super long snouts.

And it better be a LOT of lady huntresses, because since the overgrown of the fiends population in the Enchanted Forest this season, I totally NEED them! (as the locals use to say: "Pest control is a bloody business!" ) :D

Did a Halloween Dracula scenario for with Pulp Alley at a Midwestern convention in October, and it was well received and a lot of fun.  A large amount of the kudos go to your Kickstarter figures, Annie:

The rest of this AAR can be found over in the PULP section:
http://leadadventureforum.com/index.php?topic=105465.0

I'd like to make this kind of thing an annual event at this convention, so I will be needing those new minis you're developing painted and mounted by October 2018, Annie!

I feel obligated to explain that the Count's name is a (feeble) attempt at humor, as here in the USA we have a popular breakfast cereal called Count Chocula:

Don't you tell me... I have serious trauma of all things Postal related!  :'(

Sorry to hear this, gents. Haven't had those problems here in the States, even with the sizable amount of minis and such I've ordered from the UK (my pair of purchases from Annie are a case in point: really superb service from across the pond).

My dealings with Bad Squiddo have been nothing other than pleasant and professional. The products are top-notch and the service is spectacular.

Just heard that you intend to expand the range and have Gary Morley onboard :D .  Happy to to see this one grow a bit more;  It was my only criticism of the range :D .  I was worried my European vampire plans might have gone to fallow.  While DA is cool I still dream about a Hammer styled Old World.

I think I'm correct in saying he sculpted most of the originals for this set as a project for himself, but it never really got off the ground. Annie bought the models because they were too good to let go and the rest is history.

Cheers all!
