Title: The Scooby Gang. BTVS meets Pulp Alley
Post by: Chris Abbey on May 11, 2017, 10:34:41 AM
I woke up early this morning thinking what a great idea it would be to play a Pulp Alley campaign based on Buffy The Vampire Slayer using Vice Alley campaign (good guys vs bad guys battling for control of a city), using solo and horror rules.

Has anyone else tried this?

What sort of stats do you reckon for starting season 1
-Buffy Summers
-Giles
-Angel
-Willow
-Xander etc.

Interested to hear if anyone has done it already or to develop some stats in this thread and put some free to download character cards together.

I dunno about stats, but Hasslefree has loads of minis which would suit this.

What a great idea.  The Scooby gang are perfect for Pulp Alley.
Hmm...
Allotting dice accordingly, Buffy Summers must, of course be the Leader. Very strong in Brawl -- Moxie and Savage, and perhaps Danger Sense or Quick Witted.
I think, for Season One, I would have either Giles or Willow for Sidekick, as Angel's status (is he good or evil?) was still very equivocal.
Giles...Deductive or Inventor?
Willow -- something to represent her nerdiness...Harmless, perhaps, since her evolution into witchcraft didn't begin until Season Two.
Xander -- the none too adept foot soldier.
No Cordelia?
Might be fun to fudge the season canon a bit and include Oz -- the shapechanging Werewolf.
For Season One, the Big Bad would be The Master, of course, with Luke as his Sidekick, and Darla in his league as well.

I was thinking of 2 x sidekick and creating cards for Giles, Willow, Angel, Ryan and eventually Spike and varying the make up of the league from episode to episode.

I must hunt out the miniatures painted and more difficultly the unpainted ones! I know I brought the Willow figure at least from Hasselfree. What other Buffy figures do they do? Any recommendations from other manufacturers? I have the Ground Zero figures at the moment. I ordered some vampire and demon heads from a company in Poland yesterday with the intention to use some modern plastic civilian types and head swap them to make some bad guys to have their butts kicked by Buffy.

Check out West Wind for their Vampire Wars and Road Kill figure lines, including a "female vampire slayer":

Doesn't Hasslefree actually have a not-Buffy?

EDIT: Yes three versions, actually. Look at "Young Sadie" "Sadie" and "Elite Sadie"

Great idea. And yes hasslefree have a 'buffy' and a 'Willow'.

I know she's got an extra skill, but she is 'The Slayer', and their is only one, (apart from when she dies and another is called before she's resurrected of course), and difficult to choose which one not to use.

Thank's he looks rather good.
I have some 15 year ols GZ figures, so will probably start with those and upgrade when I can!
I have the Hasselfree Willow (but she's a bit to powerful in that sculpt for season 1!), and the elite Sadie miniature.

Any recommendations for Cordelia or Angel?

That Foundry Elisabeth McSweeney special edition mini is awesome!

And since she's really Buffy, The Chosen One, no further improvements are possible, or needed, IMHO!  ;)

Not that I've given it any thought ;) but Eureka's classic cheerleaders might supply one:

Let me know if you can think of any improvements.
The plan is to take 'Company of Heroes' perk for 2 slots to enable inclusion of a 2nd sidekick and then vary the league from game to game.

I don't know if you have any slots left but there are a few associates that might make sense. Frustrating as they are, the ability to get an extra gear or backup or level 1 skill at times seems appropriate.

The hierarchy of the undead.
These are my initial ideas for stating up some vampire opposition for the Scooby Gang.
Interested in any ideas for improvements.
Next up some named opposition, for 'The Harvest' we're going to need Luke, Darla and The Master for a start. I think 'The Master' might be a terror!

Hey Dinohunterpoa,

I'm not getting so much feedback on these ideas and the Buffyverse is a big, bad place. Perhaps we could work together on Buffy Alley? Their are a lot of 'big bads' to define from 7 Seasons of Buffy and 4 of Angel!

Any improvements you can think of for the basic life drainers?

I'm planning to have 1st test games of 'Buffy Alley' tomorrow night, location I think needs to be Sunnydale Cemetery. I'm going to use solo and horror rules together with 'Trail of Clues' scenario from main rule book. I've put together an encounter table to choose the opposition. Lets hope the Choosen One does not roll a one for co-stars in her first gig!

The major plot point will be the unsuspecting member of the public that she is going to save from a fate worse than death, minor plots will be the clues to their location.

I'll do a post later in the week to let you know how she does.

Any ideas, suggestions or comments, please let me know!

Last week I played the first scenario with my BTVS inspired Pulp Alley characters.

The game was played Solo using the Pulp Alley Solo Deck, which worked really well.
Scenario was 'Trail of Clues' set in Sunnydale Cemetery.

The major plot point was a pair of innocents, meeting for a date beneath the palm trees. Minor plot points were a dropped rucksack, a lost piece of jewelry, a high school text book and a disturbed grave.

Last night I set up the terrain, plot points and characters for the next episode in my Buffy themed Pulp Alley campaign.

Luke briefs his minions on the plan to kidnap a whole bunch of innocents and save them to sacrifice when the planets are aligned for 'The Harvest' in order to raise 'The Master'

Key locations in Sunnydale have been connected together using the sewers to enable the Vamps to get around with out being troubled by the pesky sun light!

One of the tunnels links up a crypt in the graveyard with the sewers. This is where the innocents were whisked away from in episode 1, First Patrol. Buffy and the Scoobies plan a rescue mission.

We're all set up and ready to give this game a whirl on Thursday night.
I've added a few more details, and lots more photos on my hobby blog @ http://wargamesbuildings.co.uk/Buffy-Alley-Episode-2-Preparing-for-the-Harvest (http://wargamesbuildings.co.uk/Buffy-Alley-Episode-2-Preparing-for-the-Harvest)

Last Wednesday (17th January) Lewis and I got around to playing the second episode in our BTVS Pulp Alley Campaign.

Buffy, Giles, Willow and Xander head off to the dead center of Sunnydale in search off some missing persons (which Luke has been collecting ready for 'The Harvest')

The scenario is played very similar to 'Trail of Clues'. Giles quickly gets some directions from a lady beat cop, who tells him of a strange noise coming from the old creepy mausoleum. Willow eventually picks the lock and the gang find a hidden tunnel leading to the sewers.

From here, it all starts to go wrong for our female avenging angels (and buddies)....

I've written up a full report, with loads more photo goodness @ http://wargamesbuildings.co.uk/Buffy-Alley-Episode-2-Preparing-for-the-Harvest (http://wargamesbuildings.co.uk/Buffy-Alley-Episode-2-Preparing-for-the-Harvest)
