Title: Special Lead Adventure Forum Figure
Post by: loki on February 13, 2007, 02:44:40 PM
Would it not be great to have a unique Lead Aventure Forum Figure
something like Colonel Marble ?

Who would it be though? The Professor? It would be cool to have a good Rasputin-like figure to grace the banner at the top.  :)

Would love to see an unique forum fig! Nice idea, Loki. And actually it's not really difficult, we just need  some ideas to choice from, a sculptor (there are lots of good fig makers out there) and some money to pay the sculptor and the mould maker.

Some ideas were a good start. Let's hear and i'm going to ask some sculptor guys.

My opinions is it should be none other than Prof. Witchheimer, Adventurer extraordinaire! (And that would be his name) he would be relatively young, ala Brandon Frazier or young Indiana.

He should be in a useful pose, not too much action but not just standing either. He would have all of the equipment neccesary for an adventure, so he would be armed of course, but have a backpack with shovel, maps, antiquities spilling out, a rope at his belt and other equipment besides.

Now, excuse my ignorance, but I'm assuming Prof. Witchheimer isn't an existing character other than Alexs namesake, so if that's the case, it could be a fun project and would give Alex the notarioty and thanks he deserves. The miniature should be sculpted by Copplestone, Mike Owen, Bob Murch, or dare I say it, Todd Harris (my sculptor). My first choice would be Copplestone though as he manages to get good character and good anatomy and I like his stuff, but that's just my opinion.

I'm an accomplished illustrator and would be glad to do some sketches for people to look at and accept or reject.

I'd do a special Lead Adventure download of the Professor. Only available with the figure purchase.

Oh man! I want this figure and it doesn't even exist yet! I normally wait for the greens, at least

Not Brandon Frazier or young Indiana though - there are already too many of them!  I agree he should be a Pulp hero with all that equipment, but he needs to have that big black beard!

Of course this means the Prof will never be able to change his avatar again (unless its to his painted mini...)!

Oh yes, my vote goes to Mike Owen as the sculptor!

I´d LOVE to buy a reasonably-priced Rasputin mini... just hope that Mr. Pratt´s heirs don´t shoot us down during the ascent.

I think the mini should look like India Jones with a large paint brush in stabbing mode in one hand and in the other hand a game ruler.

My idea was also to paint such a figure gold/silver/copper put it on a consol
and here we go -have a trophy/cup for best painted/best game and so on.

I would like to have Lead Adventure Forum Trophys at our next Lead Adventure
Forum Gathering.

I might convert my convention in September to a Lead Adventure Forum
Gathering. With a special adventure "dark room".

We have the big airport of Hamburg only 40 car minute away and cheap
accomdation.
But this is just an other idea for the near future

Greetings
Burkhard

Here is a quick concept sketch of the professor. This is based off of my original statement above as well as the few who suggested he look like Raspy.

The scan sucks as I used my old scanner instead of the good one. I made it big so you can see the details, which I didn't draw dark enough.

The details in the back pack were just ideas to give him a sense of adventure throughout the world and beyond.

and while you are at it, why don't you scult a 'Grimm' as well? His avatar gives a good impression of how he looks in RL and he should fit nicely in ANY pulp game :-) no offense meant!

Wow, Eric, he's just great, love your sketch!! Love his beard and this backpack full strange things is perfect! What's about a sort of hiking boots with bootlaces and maybe a knife on the trousers. No idea about hiking boots in the pulp era?...
Title: Special Lead Adventure Forum Figure
Post by: Operator5 on February 13, 2007, 06:56:38 PM
I think it would be more combat boots than hiking boots.

I think he needs a Mauser though.  :)
Title: Special Lead Adventure Forum Figure
Post by: Conquest on February 13, 2007, 07:02:44 PM
Yeah, there is hiking boots then. Well, at least several of the Pulp minis out there have them. There's also the leather stockings that go over boots or the long socks rolled up to just below the knee. But then he'd have to be in shorts.

It's up to everyones votes I guess. Also, this is just a basic idea of what he might look like, so feel free to 'add' equipment ideas and I'll try and come up with a final look to him. I'm assuming this is basically what he'll look like then?

Also, I can sculpt pretty well, but I'm inexperienced which results in slooooowness. I could pull it off, but do you want to play with him this year or next :D

There should probably be a poll of some kind. What he'll be used for, as Loki suggested him as a trophy originally and we've stolen his idea, and of what he should look like/be equipped with. Also, vote for the prefered sculptor and all that.

Off the top of my head, Todd would charge $250-300. Mike Owen quoted me once at 150 pounds and up, which would be roughly the same, unless he's cheaper for certain things. I would imagine Copplestone to be up there too, as last I heard he wasn't doing commisions anymore, but he might make exception to this, as we give him lots of business with all the Pulp topics. I don't know Bob Murches rates, if any. None of this has the molds or castings included, which would add a couple hundred overall.

Just 3 hours offline, and you're getting nuts like this! I want him, the sketch is marvelous (just elongate the upper torso a bit).
Title: Special Lead Adventure Forum Figure
Post by: Conquest on February 13, 2007, 07:23:48 PM
Thanks guys.

"just elongate the upper torso a bit"

I'm going with the style of the times. They hiked their pants up to thier belly buttons like the old men of today!

But I'll leav that to the sculptor really.

I also want to use it as a gaming miniature, to use it for a specific event as
a trophy would only be a positiv sideeffect.

So it should be something like a 30mm figure. With a lot of pulpy details -
like the backpack.

Any chance of a headgear for the mini ?

I am with you, that we should make a poll.

Love the idea of a LAF mini, but I'm not sure about the concept. There are lots of traditional adventurer types out there. I kind of saw the Prof as more of mysterious, mastermind type.

 yeah, that's me, very mysterious

OK, seriously, you're right, there are lots of adventure guys with a gun out there and your idea isnt bad but the backback Eric draw is just brilliant. And you can add lots of things like tentacle and so on. On the other hand we can take a bit crazy mastermind, messed hair, a coat with lots of pockets, some bags with things etc. Yes, i Like it too :) We just make a pool later
Title: Special Lead Adventure Forum Figure
Post by: Conquest on February 13, 2007, 08:19:29 PM
He could always have his mastermind coat on and then his backpack. The gun can be holstered and he could have his arcane books in hand.

I figure either way he has to go out on adventures, or else that meddling Dr. Jones or obnoxious O'Conner family might get the loot. Don't get me started with Doc Thompson. They can't have all the glory!

I really like the idea of a counterfoil to all those goody goody adventurers, and the mastermind coat is a clincher. I like the Prof's idea of having all the tentacles, scrolls, idols and other essentials stuffed into large pockets. Sort of "Prof and his coat of many pockets".

Lads, i've started two new polls about the Forum fig.

At first the sculptor and the fig looking. As soon as we know what should the fig look like, we could start new polls about details like headgear, clothes, guns etc.

Hello,

one day not online and 117 new posts. Wow !

Loki`s idea is great. I would buy a forum figure. Maybe two or three :o)

( But not Doc Thompson he lies most of the time half dead on the ground or is  transported by stretcher bearers. Not my picture of a hero   )

We also have some good German sculptors here. Why not asking Josef Ochmann or is he not interested ?

Maybe Iam a bit late with my proposal but at least one German should be in the Poll !

I'm not that much a fan of multi-parts myself but maybe we could put it here to the vote:
What do you think about seperate head and weapon sprues? Like you get them with some figs from Heresy Miniatures, where you can choose yourself which head and weapon your mini should have.
